If your neck is always tight, you’ve probably tried the usual:
stretching… massage… chiro… heat… foam rolling…

And it might feel better for a day.
Then you go to do something simple—like checking your blind spot while driving—and the stiffness is right back.

That’s because a lot of “neck tightness” isn’t a muscle problem.

It’s a nervous system strategy.
Your brain uses neck tension to create stability when it doesn’t trust your balance + gaze system.

The solution
One of my go-to resets is VOR 0 (horizontal).

In the video, I’m doing it at 40 BPM with a metronome ✅

Why a metronome?
It keeps the reps honest and smooth (no rushing, no “eye tension,” no sloppy speed).

How to do it (simple):

Hands locked together, thumbs up in front of you at eye height

Keep your eyes locked on your thumbs

Twist your torso left to right while keeping your eyes fixated on your thumbs

Match the rhythm: 40 BPM

Do 20–30 seconds

Re-test your neck (turn and check that “blind spot”)

Most people think “core” = abs.

But spinal stability is the real foundation.

And when spinal stability is poor, everything downstream suffers:

your “core” feels weak

your back feels fragile

your hips and shoulders never feel solid

you compensate… and eventually something gets tight or cranky

The issue is: the most important stabilizers aren’t the showy muscles you can see in the mirror.

They’re deep, intrinsic muscles attached to the spine.
They don’t have great leverage to create movement…
but they have amazing leverage to create stability.

One of my go-to drills to wake these up is a Dorsal Active Glide.

Why it works is simple:

Your vestibular system (balance system in your inner ear) has direct + indirect connections to muscles all over the body — especially the torso and neck.

So when we improve vestibular input, we can help the brain “turn on” better spinal stabilization.

I’ve dealt with tight and painful hips flexors for years and I thought I tried everything to fix them until I tried this...
