π€© We wish that gardening season could last all year!
Autumn is here! That means our beloved (and relatively short) gardening season is coming to an end. Tim visited his plot at the Parry Sound Community Gardens to get in one of the last few harvests before the frost comes. Look at all that nutritious goodness!
Did you know that gardeners donate 20% of their yield to local food programs like Harvest Share, the Salvation Army and Esprit Place? We're all for cultivating a healthy community. ππ±π«π

An injured Painted Turtle was spotted by our Community Cultivators near the Yvonne Williams Community Garden. The turtle is now on its way to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre in Peterborough with the help of volunteer drivers.
Please watch out for wildlife on our roads! Brake for turtles and snakes - this is their home, too.

The gardens at Mission Hill Park are flourishing thanks to the volunteers from the Meeting House. It won't be long now until it's time to harvest... like we mentioned before, 100% of the produce that's grown in these gardens will be donated to local food programs!

Great work! Go, Cameron and Preston!
Harvest Share would like to give a Shout Out to these two gentleman, Cameron and Preston, who assisted in unloading a large shipment of food received at our office earlier this week. They are part of the Community Garden Summer team at Community Living, and were on loan to help us out. Thank you so much, we truly appreciate you support!

July update: Parry Sound Community Gardens received a very generous donation of tomato plants from The Little Gardens. Plus, with the help of volunteers from the Meeting House, there are three new raised beds at Mission Park! The Meeting House will donate 100% of the produce grown in the three new plots to local food programs.
After what feels like a month of rain, the gardens are flourishing and we are excited about what's to come. π±πΏπ

May is Community Living month! Community Living Parry Sound have been Biosphere members since the program began in 2012.
They promote and facilitate the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of people who have a developmental disability.
Did you know that they are also a big supporter and oversee the Parry Sound Community Gardens? They help coordinate volunteers and staff to support all 66 plots, with 20% of all produce being donated to local food programs.
We are thankful for all that they do, and for helping to make Parry Sound a more inclusive community.

Happy Earth Day! Since the weather is not currently the most ideal for gardening, we're reminiscing about past times spent outdoors! The first photo shows Shayna and Steve with their massive harvest collected from the Gardens last summer, the second photo is avid outdoorsman and nature-lover, Bob, showing off his raised bed, and the final photo is Tim working away, keeping his Community Garden plot in tip-top shape!
We are so excited for gardening season to continue after this bout of cold weather is over... π±
