This tree was long overdue for removal. A base full of carpenter ants and significant decay meant the only safe option was removal with a lift or crane.
Waiting until a tree reaches this stage doesn't just increase the risk to your property and your neighbours—it also increases the cost of removal due to the need for specialized equipment and rental fees.
The moral of the story: don't wait until it's an emergency. If you have a questionable tree on your property, have it assessed sooner rather than later. Be proactive, not reactive!

No crane or lift access for this storm-damaged Black Spruce. Situations like this take a few tricks in the toolbox to get the job done safely.
By carefully assessing the tree and working through the hazards, I was able to remove the top without putting myself, the property, or the cottage at risk. Once the weight was off, I was able to stand the tree back up and safely fell it away from the cottage.
