Slightly Distressed

Hi friends! You may have noticed things have been quiet here, as I took some time to focus attention on family, myself and some home improvement projects. The months away from my page and painting has confirmed that it is time. Everything in life has a season and I’m at peace with this one coming to an end.

Seven years on this painting journey! It all began with a little washstand that was passed down to me from my grandmother. I painted and converted it to a “new” vanity for our main bathroom. We had just purchased a “fixer upper” house and I was repurposing wherever I could to save a few bucks. That was the spark that set this journey in motion. Since then- so much furniture! We’ve salvaged, painted and restored. Laughed and cried through a few (even cursed if I’m being honest! Lol). We updated decor items, learned how to make stencils and signs. Then we made more signs, DIY Kits, and held many fabulous workshops along the way. The most rewarding of all- the fundraisers. ❤️

Thank you all for being a part of this journey. I will always be grateful for the support and encouragement from so many! The ‘followers’ who have become dear friends, and virtual friendships that will be life long relationships.

It has been such a great experience to create and become Slightly Distressed. 🥰 I had no idea how therapeutic the painting process would be, and it opened my eyes to a whole new world of creativity that I didn’t even know was inside.

They don’t make them like this anymore!!
Years of high traffic and lots of love, memories made - that’s what I think about when I’m sanding back and making things beautiful again. This table will get a fresh start and another generation will begin the process all over again, spending time making memories here too. 🥰

This belongs to my mom, and I’ve brought it in to give it a makeover! Still unsure of what colour, I’m leaning towards black but it might go white. I think it’s the type of statement piece that could go bold… but I think my mom is really looking for timeless. I’m wondering what the popular opinion is… let me know what you think.

We had a great time getting creative at The Falls Inn - Walter's Falls last night! These will look amazing with some Mother’s Day bouquets on the table. Thanks everyone- truly so good to SEE YOU!

Hello May! I can’t believe we’ve rolled into the month of May already, but I’m all about the spring and summer months! Bring it on! Spring showers, longer sunny days and all of the beautiful colour that comes along with the season. Enjoy each day friends ❤️

Another project wrapped up around the house! We’ve debated every year, and finally the timing was right. The past few weeks have seen lots of traffic, lots of dirt and an awesome crew who made it happen! Was fun to see this updated and now we can enjoy the new driveway.

Slowly, I’m tackling the gardens… that will take time as it’s not my strong suit! I’m loving this sunny day to the fullest!
(Grow grass seed, grow!) ☀️
