Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax today during a stopover before Ukraine’s president heads to the U.S.
News of Zelenskyy’s Canadian visit comes after he spoke with Carney by phone Friday. The Prime Minister’s Office released an advisory early Saturday confirming the meeting, scheduled to start around 1 p.m. AT.
The wartime leader said in a statement that he updated the prime minister “on the status of our diplomatic efforts with the United States” to bring the Russian war in Ukraine to an end.
Zelenskyy is set to discuss a 20-point plan for peace with U.S. President Donald Trump, likely at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., on Sunday.
According to a readout of the call from the PMO, Carney commended Zelenskyy for his “continued efforts to secure a just and lasting peace for the people of Ukraine, and the courage of the Ukrainian people as they face another winter of Russian aggression.”
“The prime minister affirmed Canada’s commitment to Ukraine throughout these negotiations and emphasized the need to maintain pressure on Russia to negotiate,” the PMO said in a statement Friday.
Moscow has insisted that Ukraine relinquish the remaining territory it still holds in the Donbas — an ultimatum that Ukraine has rejected. Russia has captured most of Luhansk and about 70 per cent of Donetsk — the two areas that make up the Donbas.
Earlier this week, Zelenskyy said he would be willing to withdraw troops from Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland as part of a plan to end the war, but only if Russia also pulls back and the area becomes a demilitarized zone monitored by international forces.

The pilot from Nova Scotia, Canada (Who has drew numerous logos and more in the sky with flight paths over the province) just drew another masterpiece in the sky!
Dimitri Neonakis departed December 16th at 14:29 UTC (10:29 local), flying for approximately 15 minutes before putting on his beret (all true artists wear berets, so this absolutely happened) and going to work. Mister Neonakis chose another classic Grinch pose, the “straight-back-hands-resting-defiantly-by-the-waist”, and spent the majority of the flight at around 2000 feet. It took him 2 hours and 30 minutes to draw the entire thing, and we especially nod and silently applaud details such as the eyes and hands.

The FES said the federal government is putting Canadian hero Terry Fox on the new $5 bill to honour his Marathon of Hope and his efforts to raise money for cancer research.
“By February 1981, the Marathon of Hope had raised $24.7 million or $1 for every Canadian,” the FES says. “His run was interrupted just past the half-way point when the cancer reached his lungs, and ultimately took his life.
“Through his efforts, the 22-year-old showed Canadians the difference that an ordinary person could make through sheer willpower and determination.”
Former Liberal prime minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier will be moved from the $5 bank bill to the next version of Canada’s $50 bill.

Wiz Khalifa is facing almost a year in prison in Romania for w**d possession, but is hoping to avoid a stint behind bars.
According to TMZ, Romania’s Constanța Court of Appeal upheld an appeal on Thursday (December 18) to sentence the Pittsburgh native to nine months in jail, overturning a previous ruling that sought to merely fine him 3,000 Romanian lei (roughly $700).
While Wiz himself has yet to comment on the sentence, sources close to the 38-year-old say that “nothing is set in stone just yet” and his team are “currently in the process of appealing the sentence.”
Court documents reveal that Wiz was convicted for “unlawful possession of dangerous drugs for personal use,” with the Eastern European country imposing notoriously strict punishments for illegal substances.

The Taylor Gang rapper was arrested in July 2024 following his performance at the Beach Please! Festival in Costinești, Romania, where he smoked what appeared to be a joint onstage while dancing to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s “The Next Episode.”
Local officials said at the time that Wiz had “unlawfully possessed, for his own consumption, the quantity of 18.53 grams of cannabis and a cigarette containing cannabis.”
The rapper apologized for the incident shortly after, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

Based on the popular comic strip character most famously featured in a 1939 movie serial that starred champion Olympic swimmer Buster Crabbe, the light-hearted sci-fi series kicked off with a 1979 movie developed in the wake of the huge success of Star Wars.
At first, the dashing Gerard wasn’t interested in the part. “I saw what it did to Adam West‘s career with Batman, and this was another cartoon character. I didn’t want to do this campy stuff,” he said in a 2018 interview.
However, he finally was persuaded to sign on, and the Buck Rogers movie proved to be a hit, finishing among the top 25 domestic grossers that year. The film was then retooled to serve as the show’s two-hour opening episode.
Buck Rogers lasted two seasons and a total of 32 episodes through April 1981 before being canceled.

The ages match those of Reiner and his wife, Michele, and Post sources confirmed the bodies discovered were the longtime couple, who married in 1989.
The LAFD paramedics rushed to the home around 3:30 p.m. Shortly after, officers with the LAPD responded to the home following reports of an “ambulance death investigation,” the outlet reported.
Detectives from LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division were also at the scene, a spokesperson for the department said. A knife is believed to have been used in the attack, sources said.
Officers had the street blocked off in front of Reiner’s house, and detectives could be seen going in and out of the residence.
The Post reporters at the scene observed Reiner’s home decked out in holiday decor. It’s in a posh high-end Brentwood neighborhood with homes protected by large hedges and gates.
Reiner is the father of two sons, Jake and Nick. Nick has been open about his issues battling drug addiction and homelessness in the past.
Reiner, 78, is best known for directing a slew of classic ’80s and ’90s hit films, including “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “Spinal Tap” and “A Few Good Men.”

Our sources say Jeff canceled multiple shows recently because he wasn’t feeling well ... which wasn’t like him at all, but he didn’t go to the hospital, believing he’d be fine without treatment.
We broke the story … sources told us Jeff had previously been hospitalized around November 20 with pneumonia. He recovered enough to be discharged, but his health took another turn in recent weeks. On Monday, he went to the hospital with difficulty breathing and on Tuesday, his lung collapsed.
Jeff might not be a household name, but his voice will certainly be familiar to many ... with the actor first grabbing notice with his iconic voiceover work in the “Jimmy Neutron” franchise — bringing fan-favorite Sheen Estevez to life in the 2001 film “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” and in 59 episodes of “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.”
Sheen proved so popular, Garcia starred in his own-spinoff show titled “Planet Sheen” ... which ran for 26 episodes beginning in 2010.
