Breaking News: Humane Canada has released Canada’s first known study examining the link between animal abuse and the online radicalization of youth.

Violence online is escalating, and in many digital spaces, it is becoming normalized. Our report, Beyond Promising Practices, reveals how harmful ideologies rooted in misogyny and hopelessness can take hold, particularly among youth. Alarmingly, animal abuse is often shared in these environments, serving as an early warning sign of broader patterns of violence.

This groundbreaking research, funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, highlights critical opportunities for early intervention, child protection, public safety, and animal welfare.

Humane Canada's Violence Link work continues to demonstrate that harm to animals is often connected to broader patterns of abuse. Recognizing these warning signs can help protect both animals and people.

After years of advocacy and public education, Humane Canada helped secure the passage of Bill S-203, the Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act, in 2019.

This landmark legislation marked a turning point for marine animal welfare in Canada by prohibiting the breeding and capture of whales, dolphins, and porpoises for captivity.

While this was a significant victory, our work is far from over. Humane Canada continues to advocate for stronger protections for animals through education and legislative change.

This World Ocean Day, we celebrate the progress we've made together and recommit to building a more humane future for all animals.

Monthly support starting at just $10 helps power our policy work that creates lasting change for animals across Canada.

This is your last chance in 10 years to shape the future of cattle welfare in Canada.

The 2026 Beef Cattle Code of Practice Draft was open for public comment for nearly 60 days, and it will close on June 12th. The final Code will establish the minimum guidelines that farmers are expected to follow across Canada for the next 10 years.

We encourage you to review the draft Code and provide clear, respectful feedback on key welfare issues, including overhead protection from changing weather, enforceable stocking densities, elimination of painful procedures (e.g., branding, dehorning), transition to gradual weaning and protection of animals at auction sites.

Your insights are crucial for improving the welfare of over 10 million beef cattle annually.

Clear, respectful public input can shape real outcomes for cattle. Original comments, written in your own words, are most effective.
