A man reviewing air fryers will reach more people today than most musicians reach all year.

So the music industry looked at that and said: ‘Aha! The attention economy. Make more videos.. hook in the first 8 seconds. Stop the scroll.. sell sell sell’

Not, make better records or braver ones. Not, make stranger records or ones that put you through the emotional wringer.
Don’t worry about the art, the human voice. Make CONTENT kids.. it’s a numbers game isn’t it? Attention is king.

I’ve been doing this for twenty seven years.. I’ve watched an entire generation of musicians get turned into full time social media managers who occasionally write a song.

Because that’s now the job. Post, film, react, film, repeat.
Dance little monkey.

So I did something that every sensible person told me was ridiculous. I made songs that disappear.
Not on Spotify or Youtube. No digital landfill where everything hangs around forever whether anyone cares or not, you either show up and listen to it while it’s around, or you miss it.

And before it was a song, it was a person. A voicemail from a stranger. Someone trying to make sense of their life in two minutes on a phone line. A story that deserves more than a 15 second scroll.

Commercially, it’s ridiculous.. I’m an idiot, I know!

But you know what happened?
Over 3000 people have visited the site to hear the latest one.
That’s 3000 people who chose to leave social media and sit with a song for 4 minutes.

I think that’s a message.

Music doesn’t have an attention problem, it never did. We’re just starving for something really worth paying attention to.
I’d call it progress.. I’d call it a small act of protest.

I call it theecholine.com
