Join us on Sunday June 28, 2026 @ 1:30PM for Anakbayan Ottawa’s Annual General Meeting!

What is the Anakbayan AGM?

Every year, all Anakbayan Ottawa members gather for the Annual General Meeting.
We address the state of the Filipino youth here and abroad. It is not lost on us that the lack of employment here is deeply connected to unemployment back home due to bureaucrat capitalist, imperialist and semi-feudal exploitation in the Philippines.
Our AGM is a time to reflect on these issues and our organization’s progress in the mass movement this past year. We elect executive members, and present our general plan of action among many other cultural and educational activities to celebrate our accomplishments as an organization.

This event is open to Anakbayan members, allies, and friends!

GIBO & US-MARCOS - PASISTA. BERDUGO. 💥

Join us for a FLASH RALLY @3:45PM
Mackenzie King Bridge as we condemn the collaboration of US-Marcos with imperialist allies like Canada.

Today, June 11, 2026, Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro will participate in a signing ceremony with Defense Minister David McGuinty in Ottawa. This collaboration is a show of the US-Marcos regime peddling imperialist interest - pimping the Philippine’s resources, bases, facilities to the US, Canada, and other imperialist allies. While tomorrow, June 12, is the commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day, it is clear we are not free with our nation being sold to foreign interests.

Teodoro under the command of US-Marcos is a true enemy of the Filipino people and leading advocate of the fascist killing machine, celebrating alongside Philippine Army the massacre of individuals killed in Negros 19, that killed activists and land defenders.

Anakbayan Ottawa is attending the ILPS Conference with the theme ‘Against Canadian Imperialism: Uniting for Socialism!’

We call on the Filipino youth in Ottawa to join us at ILPS, and for community support as we fundraise to bring youth to this conference!

In light of the Toboso Massacre, and rampant corruption in the Philippine government, we say enough is enough! We stand against local militarization funded by imperial interest, and fascist interest in keeping the Filipino people poor - and will unite with others in this people’s struggle at ILPS. Join us in mobilizing for a future where we can return home.

We encourage you to donate if you can't attend. Our money fuels corruption, as our dollars fund CANSEC. Fund youth going to ILPS instead! To support our members and interested youth in joining the ILPS conference, you can send monetary donations to Anakbayan Ottawa by e-transfer to [email protected].

On April 29th, we had the pleasure of hosting Danilo “Ka Daning” for a public education on the conditions faced by farmers and peasants in the Philippines. As a part of his talking tour, Ka Daning stopped by Ottawa to speak with the community and share learnings from his decades long experience fighting for the rights of farmers and peasants.

Ka Daning is the chairperson of KMP, the largest farmers and peasants Union in the Philippines, and has been an organizer for decades.

We learned about the realities faced by farmers and peasants in the Philippines--facing land-grabbing, usury, and lack of farming tools. They face many adversities in simply trying to access their livelihood. Additionally, militarization in the countryside, as well as the on-going Balikatan exercises, further restrict the access of farmers to their land. The Canadian military is a new participant to the Balikatan war games, directly impacting Filipinos and making their lands unlivable. The presence of the military in the countryside also means that farmers and peasants who try to advocate themselves face direct oppression and violence.

As a survivor of a massacre, and having been detained by the fascist state forces twice, Ka Daning shared how we must stay risilient and determined in the fight to serve our people.
In light of the Negros 19 massacre, we had a moment of silence, and strengthened our resolve and dedication to holding the state accountable, and pushing forward justice and national democracy in the Philippines.

Join us this Friday, 4PM at the Philippine Embassy for a vigil mourning those murdered in Negros on April 19th by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

This massacre is directly connected to the current conditions of the Philippines which does not serve the people, but foreign interests and those in power. Among those killed were students, researchers, journalists and even overseas Filipinos. They chose to go to Negros because they understood the importance of being there, to learn from and serve the people. The people who are heavily exploited by land-grabbing, big landlords, displacement. All of which is backed by heavy militarization from the US backed Marcos Jr, regime who exploits the Phillipines for its cheap export of natural resources.

We will have a short program consisting of statements from local organizations as well as from Danilo (Ka Daning) Ramos, a peasant organizer from the Philippines. After the program we will be going together to the May Day march together.

We demand justice for those murdered.
We demand that the US-backed violations of human rights and international humanitarian law ends.
We call on all Filipinos and allies to join us not only for the vigil, but join us in understanding the semi-colonial, semi-feudal state of the Philippines and to organize for a better world.

3 DAYS TO GO

Join us this Wednesday for an informative discussion on the peasant situation in the Philippines led by Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas chairperson Danilo "Ka Daning" Ramos.

What is the role of peasant farmers and what is their importance?

Given their importance, how are they affected by not only corruption in the Philippine Government, but the world situation such as the US Israel War on Iran and even our own Canadian government's support for the corrupt state?

What role to we play, as Filipinos in the diaspora or as concerned individuals in Canada?

Come to Carleton University, Paterson Hall 201 from 6 to 9PM to learn more!
