Is chiropractic care recommended for babies?

Seeing a chiropractor at a young age—particularly within the first two years of life—is especially important since a child will experience the most physical and neurological growth during that time period.

In fact, the spine will develop its primary and secondary spinal curvatures in the first year of life, which in turn will have an effect on future bone growth and function, and the spine itself will experience its greatest growth by age two.

An infant or young child could benefit from chiropractic care if:
→ Torticollis or a noticeable head preference (tendency for the baby to either tilt or turn their head to one side);
→ Restricted movement of the head or neck;
→ Overarching of the back when laying down;
→ Difficulty nursing on one side;
→ …And more

Visit our website to learn more if your child could benefit from chiropractic care.

4 Reasons your baby could end up with Plagiocephaly:

1. Sleeping on their back – the back or side of a baby's head can become flattened as a result of always sleeping on their back, but it's important they do this to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

2. Position in utero– pressure can be placed on a baby's head before it's born if things are a bit squashed in the womb or there's a lack of amniotic fluid to cushion the baby

3. Premature birth – premature babies are more likely to develop a flattened head because their skull is softer when they're born and they may prefer to rest their head on one side at first because they're not yet able to move their head themselves

4. Neck muscle tightness – this can prevent a baby from turning their head a particular way, meaning one side of their head is placed under more pressure (more common with Torticollis)

Occasionally, a flattened head can be caused by the plates of the skull joining together too early. This is known as craniosynostosis.

When is the right time to take care of ourselves...

What would it be like if we addressed issues BEFORE they had time to settle into our bodies and create years of compensation?

What if we started to take care of ourselves right from the beginning?

Over the past 5 years, Jennifer has shifted an aspect of her practice to focus on Infant/child assessment and treatment.

With the pleasure of team-working with several highly regarded Midwives and IBCLC's (international board-certified lactation consultants) and other Health Care professionals who have also recognized the importance of infants being treated for conditions presented from birth.

If you are a mother with children please remember to ask yourself this...
When is the right time to take care of ourselves?

Some issues if caught sooner rather than later can be fixed a lot faster.

If you think your child needs to be assessed for something please do not hesitate to call us and let us help.

If you are unsure of what to look for please visit our blog on our website.
