BEING is about truly valuing the work —
by valuing the artist who created it. More than 60 artists participate on a regular basis.
BEING Studio (formerly H’Art of Ottawa) is a non-profit visual arts studio and creative writing program for adults with a development disability. BEING opened its doors in 2002 in response to the need for meaningful programs for these members of our community. BEING Studio is also inspired by a strong belief that people with a developmental and intellectual disability can be productive members of

Meet June’s Artist Spotlight: Cassidy Clifford!
Cassidy is an artist who joined the studio over the past year. She creates bold artwork made with acrylic markers and stuffed creatures with embroidery thread. Cassidy's work explores fun and joy, her inspiration is drawn from shows like Sesame Street, Dragon Tales and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Introducing BEING Studio’s latest art exhibition at Richcraft: Landscapes & Mindscapes!
Discover André Lanthier’s traditional landscapes, Malinda Caron’s abstract paintings and Aryana Juzdani’s bold paintings based on photographs of iconic locations. Landscapes and Mindscapes invites the viewer into local environments, moody dreamworlds and picture-perfect postcard vistas. Be sure to visit the exhibition while it’s still here!

Are you a cat lover? If so, you’ll love Hector the Rainbow Cat, a multimedia felted sculpture created by Frances Laube.
The piece was inspired by BEING Studio facilitator Aaron Daniel Casey’s sculptural figures, combined with Frances’ own love of needle-felting. Frances describes the work as “a magic cat.”

Today is World Migratory Bird Day!
BEING Artist Emilia Valerio created a stunning painting of a rainbow lorikeet. Lorikeets are small parrots who are native to Australia, Papau New Guinea and parts of Southeast Asia.

Meet May’s Artist Spotlight: Monique Choquette!
Monique is a new artist who joined the studio this year, who creates one-of-a-kind art combining pencil crayons and acrylic markers into beautiful pieces. “I grew up in Chicoutimi, Quebec. I have French, Metis, and English roots. I started doing my art in elementary school after I began drawing on my mother’s wall, and it became a frequent part of my life after that. To me, being an artist encompasses life. It means the ability to share a piece of me with the world.”
