The Canadian Wildland Fire Information System (CWFIS) has set wildfire risk to extreme across much of Southern Ontario, including Ottawa and surrounding areas. Even smoke from distant fires can seriously affect your indoor air quality.

Wildfire smoke contains fine particles (PM2.5) that can enter your home through windows, doors, cracks, and HVAC systems. These particles can cause burning eyes, runny nose, coughing, and worsen heart and lung conditions. ‣ Keep windows and doors closed.
‣ Set your HVAC or air conditioner to recirculate mode and close fresh air intakes.

‣ Limit outdoor activities and avoid strenuous exercise.
‣ Wear a well-fitted N95 respirator if you must go outside.
‣ Avoid indoor activities that add particles: no candles, frying food, smoking, or vacuuming without a HEPA filter.
