Due to a COVID-19 exposure on Air Canada Flight 007 on October 13, the Hong Kong Department of Health has placed a two-week ban on Air Canada passenger flights from Vancouver.

One passenger on Air Canada Flight 007 tested positive for COVID-19, while another failed to follow local health guidelines.

The ban will be in effect from October 16 to October 29, and it does not affect cargo flights or flights departing from Toronto.

Canada Post says it will hire 4,200 more temporary workers throughout the country in preparation for the approaching Christmas holidays.

Purolator Inc., another transportation firm, announced it would hire 2,400 seasonal workers for the Christmas season.

Over the holiday season, Purolator expects its employees to handle a record amount of parcels, a nearly 10% increase over last year.

On October 13, Canada organized another Express Entry lottery for persons seeking permanent residency who had received province nominations.

Candidates with a minimum score of 720 received 681 invites from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). All invited candidates got an automatic 600 points by receiving a nomination from the Provincial Nominee Program.

The US land border, which has been closed to non-essential travel for more than a year and a half, will open for fully vaccinated Canadians in early November.

Statistics Canada's quarterly job vacancies report claims there are a record number of job openings in construction, manufacturing, and food and lodging services.

There were 731,900 job openings in the second quarter, which is over 26% more than the same period two years earlier.

Statistics Canada's Survey on Business Conditions suggests that more than 8% of firms anticipate an increase in job openings this quarter.

Before Covid-19 hit, Canada had the fastest increasing population of any G-7 country, and immigration accounted for nearly all of that expansion. However, due to border restrictions and a decrease in services, immigration plummeted by half last year.

Beginning Oct. 30, passengers boarding aircraft in Canadian airports or riding Via Rail trains will be obligated to confirm they are fully vaccinated or show a negative COVID-19 test.
