Plant Spotlight:
Heartleaf Lemon Lime Philodendron

Family: Araceae (Aroid)
Genus: Philodendron
Species: hederaceum
Cultivar: Lemon Lime

Also known as Neon Philodendron, this cultivar of Heartleaf Philodendron was originally produced by tissue culture.

It does best in medium to bright indirect light, but can tolerate low light, as well as some direct light. This one got its beautiful orangey leaves 5 feet from a West facing window with 2-3 hours of direct afternoon sun.

Like most Aroid plants, it needs well draining, well aerated substrate, preferably nice and chunky to give its hemiphytic roots something to grip. When its roots are adapted to soil, they need to dry out between waterings. When the top quarter of the soil is dry, water thoroughly.

The plant in the picture is in a 10" hanging basket, potted in our classic Aroid Mix (no substitutions). It is kept between 35% and 55% relative humidity. In the summer and fall it lives 5 feet from a West facing window, in the winter it lives 5 feet from a 24W LED grow light.

Our Aroid Mix is fully customizable for different growing environments. For details and pricing, go to

How to water our Succulent and Cactus Mix

Just keep watering!

A properly gritty, well draining mix takes the guesswork out of watering picky cacti and succulents. Their fine roots need to dry out completely before getting watered thoroughly. This mix, combined with proper watering, achieves both goals.

How It's Made
The spectacular Monstera Deliciosa from our cover photo thrives in this chunky Aroid Mix.

But it looks so different from potting soil!! 🤔

Aroid plants are prone to root rot, so they need a potting medium with excellent drainage and aeration, good nutrient retention, and minimal compaction.

What is an Aroid?

Family Araceae - a giant taxonomical group of plants that includes Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, Syngonium, Scindapsus, Alocasia, Caladium, and many more!
Many Aroids are hemi-epyphitic, which means their roots can adapt to either living in soil, or climbing up trees. They benefit from a light, chunky soil that enables their roots to breathe, while also having a rough surface to grip.
