People often ask how I landed on the name Siamese Communications.
The answer is curled up on my desk right now, supervising.
Meet Java. My Siamese cat, my office mate, my shadow, and my sidekick. He is 18 years old, which is somewhere around 88 in human years, and he has earned every bit of his senior status. He spends his days stretched out beside my keyboard, occasionally lending a paw, mostly lending his company.
He is, admittedly, a bit of a slacker. He has never once met a deadline. But he shows up every single day, settles in close, and keeps me steady through the quiet hours and the busy ones.
When it came time to name my business, there was never really a question. Java has been at my side through so much of life. Naming my business after him felt like the most natural thing to do.
So that is the story. Siamese Communications is named for a senior boy with blue eyes, strong opinions, and a gift for being exactly where he is needed.
Eighteen years, and still my favourite coworker. 🐾

Thirty years in executive-level roles teaches you things no course ever could.
Here are three that changed how I work:
1. Clarity is a form of respect.
When you communicate clearly — in an email, a report, or a meeting — you are telling the other person their time matters. Vague, wordy communication is not just inefficient. It is inconsiderate. I learned this early and it shaped everything I write and deliver.
2. The details are not small.
The executives I admired most were not the ones with the biggest vision. They were the ones who never let the important details fall through. A missed deadline, a typo in a proposal, a forgotten follow-up — these things compound. Precision is not perfectionism. It is professionalism.
3. Relationships outlast transactions.
I have worked with clients, students, colleagues, and community partners across three decades. The ones who have stayed in my life are the ones I showed up for consistently. Business is built on trust, and trust is built over time.
These are the values I carry into every client engagement at Siamese Communications.
Which one resonates most with you?

Artificial intelligence is not replacing skilled virtual assistants.
It is separating the good ones from the great ones.
Here is what I mean.
A junior VA uses AI to write a newsletter draft. A senior VA uses AI to research your industry, draft the newsletter, format it for your platform, optimize it for your audience, and deliver it ready to publish.
Same tool. Completely different result.
At Siamese Communications, I have integrated AI-assisted workflows into my practice — not to cut corners, but to deliver better, faster, and more strategic work for my clients.
What that looks like in practice:
-- Research that used to take hours takes minutes, with higher accuracy
-- First drafts are stronger, leaving more time for strategy and refinement
-- Repetitive processes are systematized so your projects run more smoothly
-- You get the output of a senior professional, amplified by modern tools
AI is a tool. Expertise is what determines how well it is used.
Are you using AI in your business yet? I would love to hear how.

After 24+ years in post-secondary education, I made a decision that surprised a lot of people.
I retired.
Not because I was tired of working — but because I was ready to work differently.
For over two decades, I led marketing campaigns, managed government-funded projects, developed curriculum, coached students, planned events, and taught business courses. I did meaningful work. And I loved most of it.
But I always knew there was something else calling me.
In March 2025, I stepped away from institutional life and launched Siamese Communications — a premium virtual assistant and communications consultancy built entirely on the expertise I spent 30 years earning.
No more committees. No more bureaucracy. Just excellent work, delivered directly to clients who need it most.
If you are an executive, entrepreneur, or business owner who needs a senior-level professional in your corner — without the cost or commitment of a full-time hire — that is exactly what I built Siamese Communications to be.
I am Jan-Marie Watson. And I am just getting started.
What was the moment that made you decide to build something of your own?
