We've all heard the old adage "A tired puppy is a good puppy".

This is true to a certain extent, but what happens when your puppy gets over-tired or over-stimulated? Often times chaos ensues! Nipping, Zoomies, jumping up and grabbing things they shouldn't. Make sure your new puppy is getting enough downtime in their crate to curb unwanted behaviours.

• 8 to 12 weeks - Sleep remains high at 18–20 hours per day. They wake for feeding, toileting and some play time.
• 12 to 16 weeks (3–4 months): Sleep averages 16–18 hours per day, with shorter naps throughout the day.
• 4 to 6 months: Sleep decreases to 14–16 hours per day. Puppies are more active and require exercise and mental stimulation to ensure restful sleep.
• 6 to 12 months: Sleep further reduces to 12–14 hours per day. Nighttime sleep is usually solid, but daytime naps become shorter.

Most dogs love the water and it is a great way for them to exercise on those hot Summer days!

Keep them safe and healthy with these tips:
• Invest in a properly fitted dog life jacket, particularly for boating, kayaking, or swimming in open water.

• Always supervise your dog near water, whether at a pool or lake as even strong swimmers can tire, panic, or encounter currents that may lead to drowning.

• Be aware of contaminated water. Lakes, ponds, and rivers may contain parasites like Giardia, which can cause diarrhea, or toxic blue-green algae, which can be fatal.

• Teach your dog basic commands such as “come,” “stay,” and “leave it” to manage their behavior in water.
