kay, so you’re now ready to sign up with Irwin Boxing, but that exactly are the rules. Is it a free for all? Does sucker punching count? What about kicking? Don’t worry, our Niagara Boxing 101 guide has the top 13 most common rules to boxing.

Niagara Boxing 101: Rules and Guidelines
Each country has it own set of rules
2. The boxing matches (“bouts”) take place is a ring that is 5.5 meters to 6.7 meter and surrounded by four strands of rope.

3. Boxing matches lasts from 4-12 rounds of three-minute duration.

4. A referee is used to manage regulations. In some places, the referee and two judges score the boxers. In other places it is three judges who does the scoring.

5. A boxer must win on two of the three scorecards to earn a decision victory.

6. In the Olympics, there are five judges that score the fights.

7. Padded gloves, ranging from 8 to 10 ounces in weight, are worn by the boxers.

8. A bout ends in a knockout when a boxer is knocked down and cannot get up by the count of 10.

9. A fight can be stopped by a technical knockout (TKO) when a boxer is deemed by the referee to be unable to defend himself properly, when a boxer is deemed to have sustained a serious injury, or when a boxer or his seconds decide he should not continue.

10. A bout may also end in a decision when the bout has gone the scheduled number of rounds and the scoring officials decide the winner.

11. Sometimes there can be a draw.

12. There are four basic punches: the jab, hook, uppercut, and straight right (straight left for a southpaw), which is sometimes referred to as a “cross.”

13. Boxing is a completely different sport than kickboxing.
