A smooth renovation doesn't happen by accident.

When homeowners describe a renovation as "easy" or "stress-free," it's usually because of all the work happening behind the scenes.

Successful projects rely on clear communication, organized scheduling, timely material procurement, trade coordination, and setting realistic expectations from the very beginning. When those pieces are managed properly, the entire process feels more predictable and far less overwhelming for the homeowner.

At Mitchell Contracting, we spend a lot of time coordinating the details that most people never see. From making sure materials arrive when they're needed to scheduling trades in the right sequence and keeping clients informed along the way, our goal is to create a renovation experience that feels organized and well-managed.

Because a great renovation isn't just about the finished space.

It's about the experience getting there.

One of the most important parts of a bathroom renovation is something you'll never see once the project is finished.

Waterproofing.

Before any tile is installed, the shower and wet areas need to be properly waterproofed to protect the structure behind the finished surfaces. While beautiful tile often gets all the attention, it's the waterproofing system underneath that helps prevent moisture damage, mold growth, and costly repairs down the road.

A properly waterproofed shower is designed to direct water where it belongs and keep it away from framing, insulation, and drywall.

It's one of those details that homeowners may never see once the project is finished, but it plays a huge role in the longevity and performance of the bathroom.

At Mitchell Contracting, we believe the quality of a renovation isn't just about how it looks when it's done—it's about making sure the work behind the walls is completed properly so the space performs well for years to come.

Framing is one of our favourite stages of a renovation.

At this point, the old layout is gone and the vision for the new space starts to take shape. Walls are moved, openings are created, and the framework for the finished project begins to come together.

But framing is about much more than simply building walls.

Every measurement, opening, and detail needs to be carefully considered because everything that follows depends on it. Cabinetry, flooring, trim, drywall, tile, and finishes all rely on the framing being accurate, level, plumb, and square.

When framing is done properly, the rest of the project comes together more smoothly and the finished result reflects that attention to detail.

It's one of the stages homeowners rarely see once a renovation is complete, but it's one of the most important parts of building a space that will look great and perform well for years to come.

What makes a kitchen truly functional?

It’s not always more square footage.

Some of the best kitchen transformations come from improving the layout, maximizing storage, and creating better flow between the spaces you use every day.

Thoughtful features like a well-designed pantry, proper appliance placement, additional prep space, and seating areas can completely change how a kitchen functions without increasing its footprint.

Good kitchen design is about understanding how the homeowner lives and creating a space that supports that lifestyle. The goal isn’t just to make the kitchen look beautiful — it’s to make it easier and more enjoyable to use every day.

When a designer, cabinetry company, and contractor work together from the beginning, the entire process becomes much smoother. Each team brings their expertise to the table, ensuring the layout, storage solutions, finishes, and construction all align seamlessly, and the result is a kitchen that feels larger, works better, and adds lasting value to the home.

One of the biggest factors in the success of a renovation has nothing to do with the finishes you choose.

It’s coordination.

A typical renovation can involve designers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors, cabinetmakers, painters, and more. Each trade plays an important role, and the quality of the final result often comes down to how well everyone works together.

When communication is strong and scheduling is managed properly, projects move more efficiently, problems are solved faster, and the finished product reflects the level of care that went into every stage of the process.

At Mitchell Contracting, a large part of our role is coordinating these moving pieces and ensuring every trade has what they need to do their best work. It's not always the most visible part of a renovation, but it's one of the most important.

Great renovations aren't built by one person—they're built by a team working together toward the same goal.

Big things are starting to happen at the exterior portion of our Niagara Falls project.

We’ve officially completed the helical pile installation, and the next phase will be building this beautiful covered outdoor patio space.

The goal with this project is to create an outdoor living space that ties seamlessly into the existing home — something that looks and feels like it was always meant to be there.

Along with the new covered structure, this backyard transformation will also include a stamped concrete patio, updated walkway, and a new driveway to create one cohesive and finished exterior throughout the property.

Once complete, this outdoor space is going to completely change how the homeowners use and enjoy their backyard.

Looking forward to sharing more progress as this project continues to take shape.

One of the most important parts of any renovation happens before construction even begins — the planning phase.

From the very first email or phone call all the way through to signing a contract, the process can take several weeks or even a few months depending on the scope of the project. And honestly, that time is important.

Good renovations don’t happen by accident. They come from careful planning, clear communication, budgeting, scheduling, material selections, and making sure every detail is considered before work starts onsite.

At Mitchell Contracting, our goal is to make that process feel as seamless and organized as possible. Between Brendan and our office team, we work closely with homeowners throughout every stage to make sure expectations, timelines, and project goals are aligned from the start.

When the planning is done properly, the construction phase runs smoother — and the end result is a home that feels thoughtfully designed, well-built, and completed with care.

When it comes to selecting flooring, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

The three most common options we work with are LVP, hardwood, and tile — and here at Mitchell Contracting, we’ve installed miles and miles of all three. But choosing the right flooring isn’t just about appearance — it’s about how the space is used and what works best for your lifestyle.

Do you have kids or dogs? Are you retired? Is the flooring going in a kitchen, hallway, laundry room, or throughout the entire home?

All of those factors play a role in determining which product will perform best long-term.

Hardwood brings warmth and character, tile offers durability and water resistance, and LVP can be a great low-maintenance option depending on the space and needs of the homeowner.

The best flooring choice is the one that fits both your home and your everyday life — and that’s why these conversations are an important part of the planning process before any renovation begins.
