* mini manicures
* applying perm rods and foils
* braiding hair on mannequins
* shampooing hair

Spend time in the Student Spa Clinic and Student Hair Salon, meet instructors, talk to current students, and get application support from our recruitment team.

Step 1) grow your hair out into an unruly mop
Step 2) book a hair cut at Vancouver Island University’s Hairdressing department
Step 3) ensure the clean and dry hair is at least 10” of undyed/non-chemically treated strands. (Don’t braid it like i did. Oops.)
Step 4) Mail hair in a paper envelope to Wigs for Kids B.C. (Don’t put it in any Plastic like i did. Double oops!)

We are so proud of the two students who travelled to the Canadian Skills Nationals competition in Regina and put their talents to the test among hundreds of other students from across Canada.
Congratulations to Simon Martin who took home the secondary level Culinary gold medal. This is Simon’s second time at the nationals. He attended in 2024 as a grade 11 student from NDSS. This year he competed as an official dual credit student, mentored by Chef Jason Lloyd. Rumor has recruiters are after him to join their team.
Brenna Smith competed in the post-secondary level Hairstylist competition and her mentor was Arden Magtiza. The standard was incredibly high, and Brenna did an incredible job representing VIU.
