Students Offering Support: VIU Chapter (www.viusos.com) is Vancouver Island University’s chapter of the charitable association Students Offering Support. Students Offering Support is a sustainable social venture that develops and supports chapters in post-secondary schools across North America. Each University chapter raises money to raise roofs through raising marks during our ‘Exam-AID’ group re
view sessions, taught and coordinated by student volunteers for university and high school students. These student volunteer led sessions take place prior to midterms and final exams, charging each student a $20 donation to attend. The money raised each year is spent on sustainable development projects in Latin America, which is funded and built by chapter volunteers on an annual outreach trips. Since 2005, over 2,000 Students Offering Support volunteers have tutored over 25,000 students and raised more than $700,000 for various rural communities across Latin America.By employing efficient entrepreneurial business practices, the Students Offering Support model provides Vancouver Island University students an effective vehicle to acquire amazing extra-curricular experience, while helping children around the world gain an education and break the cycle of poverty.
