Fine Strings

I was asked to make a new bridge for this hardanger fiddle. I started with a full blank because the sympathetic strings it has require a special bridge. I find it fun to work on these unusual projects!

I love the stories that come with instruments…this violin encountered a bear’s mouth in the Canadian wilderness!
Thankfully, the owner was fine!

Great concert by the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra this afternoon also featuring Alan Rinehart with a fabulous guitar concerto! If you missed it, they play again tomorrow afternoon in Ladysmith!

This was the first time I’ve seen a nylon tailgut crack on a cello…good thing it was spotted before it broke completely!! The Kevlar replacement I’ve put on will not do that and it’ll result in a better sound.

My husband, who is not a violin family musician, saw this and said, “Violin torture round”….😄…he had no idea what it was (for those who are also not sure, it’s a mute, which forces us to play quietly!)
