✨ Designed around your site, your light, and how you actually live

This boathouse works harder than it looks like it should.

Most boathouses are designed around one job: storing the boat. On Lake Rosseau, we wanted this one to do more than that, without losing sight of that main job. So instead of running the roofline flat straight across, we let it lift at one end.

That single move does two things at once. Below, it opens up the storage bay to real daylight, instead of the dim, garage-like feel most boathouses settle for.

Above, that same lift creates enough room for a rooftop patio, a spot most properties never get to have this close to the water.
It is a small structural decision with a big impact on how the space actually gets used. At 900 square feet, nothing here is wasted.

It holds a boat, gives you a place to sit above the water, and lets in the kind of light that makes a utility building feel like somewhere you'd actually want to be!

We're honoured to be featured in the Mid-Summer issue of Our Homes Magazine, with a look at a cottage we designed for a family who spent years renting up here before finally building their own on Lake Muskoka!

Catch the full feature on newsstands around Muskoka, Parry Sound, Huntsville, and Haliburton, or read it at the link in our bio.

You spend all week waiting for this exact kind of peace.

No agenda, no noise, just a dock chair, still water, and enough quiet to finally slow down 🤎

A boathouse doesn't have to feel like storage.

On Lake Rosseau, we let the roofline slip upward at one end, just enough to pull real light into a space that's usually left dark and utilitarian.

That same lift creates a rooftop patio above, so the building works twice as hard as most boathouses do.

900 square feet, and not one of them feels like an afterthought!

Before we build anything, we build it twice, once on screen, once on site.

This is the model we used to walk Chown Cottage's clients through every sightline and material choice, next to the real thing.

Look closely and you'll spot the differences: the stone texture, the way the fall light lands on the deck. Small shifts, but they're the ones that make a house feel like a place instead of a plan 🤎

Before you fall in love with a design, it's worth knowing what your lot can actually hold.

Zoning shapes more of a project than people expect, sometimes more than budget does. The earlier you understand what applies to your property, the fewer surprises later on.

We're happy to walk you through what it means for your specific lot!

There's a version of quiet that only exists up here. The drive gets slower, the light gets softer, and somehow the water always finds a way to settle everything down.

We've spent our whole lives around these lakes, and it still gets us every time.

Nowhere else feels quite like this 🤎🛶

Rather than fight the slope, we let it lead us: gently stepping each building down so the garage settles at the driveway, and the cottage and boathouse find their own easy planes below.

The site faces north, which meant our best view sat opposite the sun. So we took our time. We studied the light across a full year and only let go of the trees that were truly standing in its way.

The roofline stayed simple on purpose, so the care could go into the timber details this family actually lives with. Nothing here shouts. It just feels like it belongs.

It always starts with light. With materials. With one unique idea.

This is how Juddhaven on Lake Rosseau came to life’s. For this one, we leaned into a long, expansive form that opens up to the water, delivering those sweeping lake views and the ultimate feeling of relaxation.

What’s the one feature you’d never compromise on in a waterfront home? 👇
