Kraken Robotics
Kraken Robotics Inc.
is a marine technology company engaged in the design, development and marketing of advanced sonar and acoustic velocity sensors for the Unmanned Underwater Vehicles used in military and commercial applications.
Kraken Robotics’ Acoustic Corer was used by Weeks Marine, Inc. to support subsurface imaging of buried obstructions in the Hudson River, where new rail tunnels are being developed to provide additional capacity and operational flexibility for one of the busiest passenger rail corridors in the USA.
Before tunnel boring could begin, shallow post-glacial sediments within the Hudson River channel required stabilisation. Weeks Marine used cofferdam structures to drain sections of the river and inject a mixture of soil, concrete, and water into the riverbed to strengthen the shallow soils.
A key challenge was identifying buried objects and obstructions within the upper part of the seabed that could hinder the soil stabilisation phase.
Across a 365 m² project area, Kraken completed 102 Acoustic Corer deployments across 34 survey rows. The overlapping data was merged into a single 3D volume, enabling the interpretation of 520 buried discrete anomalies.
The Acoustic Corer provides high-resolution 3D acoustic imaging of the sub-seabed, supporting the detection and interpretation of buried objects, stratigraphy, and shallow geological features. For Weeks Marine, this information helped guide project planning and reduce the risk of encountering subsurface obstructions during construction.

In the oil and gas industry, brownfield modifications and asset integrity work often depend on accurate dimensional data collected in challenging subsea environments. Traditionally, that can mean engineering decisions being made offshore, with divers, ROVs, vessels, and support spreads waiting in real time while 3D measurements are captured and verified.
In this video, Kraken Robotics’ subsea LiDAR is used in dynamic mode, collecting data from a moving ROV, to capture a high-resolution 3D dataset. This data was collected from the base of a subsea structure up the platform jacket leg, including the existing riser system, to support an upcoming riser replacement project.
The dataset provided subsea engineers with the dimensional information required to complete engineering analysis and replacement planning before offshore ex*****on. By providing the critical 3D measurements, the client reduced offshore engineering uncertainty, vessel schedule, engineering time, and overall campaign risk.
Subsea LiDAR supports complex offshore work, including:
♦️ Asset integrity inspections
♦️ Brownfield modifications
♦️ Inspection, maintenance, and repair campaigns
♦️ Riser and spool replacement projects
♦️ Digital twin development for ageing infrastructure

Kraken Robotics KATFISH demonstrates high-resolution synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) imaging of man-made objects on the seabed during a harbour survey in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
From small objects such as rope and cables to larger structures including pier footings, KATFISH delivers consistent, ultra-high-resolution imaging in real time, enabling operators to detect, classify, and understand objects on the seabed with confidence.
For naval operations, this level of detail supports critical underwater infrastructure (CUI) surveys, where identifying both known and unknown objects is essential to enabling efficient change detection and maintaining maritime security, ensuring safe access, and supporting rapid environmental assessments.
With wide-area coverage and constant resolution, KATFISH enables efficient inspection of ports, harbours, and approaches, providing actionable seabed intelligence when it matters most.

The Royal Navy and Marina Militare are standing by with their Kraken SAS systems on REMUS UUVs to help with mine countermeasure operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
"...the priority will be to clear a transit lane in the strait to allow around 700 ships to leave.
A lane flowing in the opposite direction will then be cleared, allowing ships to enter," Reported Sky News https://news.sky.com/story/iran-war-latest-us-and-iran-getting-a-lot-closer-to-finalising-agreement-to-end-war-says-donald-trump-13509565?postid=11749429 -body

Kraken Robotics provides industrial measurement solutions using Subsea LiDAR to deliver high-accuracy dimensional control from fabrication through to offshore installation.
Using a combination of Kraken Subsea LiDAR systems alongside established survey tools such as terrestrial LiDAR and laser scanners, Kraken supports full jumper metrology workflows from initial structure fabrication to final subsea positioning. This enables a consistent measurement and quality control process across the full project lifecycle.
By delivering millimetric-level measurements on assets such as x-mas trees and manifolds, engineers are equipped with the data required to make informed decisions on reengineering, fabrication, and installation. The level of detail captured, combined with direct integration into CAD modelling workflows, provides a clear advantage over traditional measurement methods.
Kraken Robotics has supported over a thousand projects across five continents, providing repeatable, high-confidence data to offshore operators and engineering teams.
