Are you shy about bringing your own container to a take-out restaurant or café and asking for your order to go in it?

If you see this green sign in the window of a business in Silicon Valley, you can bring your own containers to fill without feeling awkward—and avoid single-use waste. The sign is like a beacon!

After friends and I started Silicon Valley Reduces (inspired by Roncy Reduces) and posted about it on social media, people contacted me with questions about starting their own groups. Ten additional groups are now up and running in the US (with a few more working on launching):

✨ Ithaca and Finger Lakes Reduces, part of Zero Waste Ithaca (NY)
✨ DC Reduces (for drinks and dry cleaners... BYO is not allowed for food...yet!)
✨ Sacramento Reduces (CA)
✨ Long Beach Reduces (CA)
✨ Stillwater Reduces (OK)
✨ Louiseville Reduces (KT)
✨ Detroit Reduces (MI)
✨ Baltimore Reduces (MD)
✨ Columbia County (NY)
✨ New York City, Upper West Side (NY)

We also have an umbrella group BYO - US Reduces.

Would you like to start a similar program where you live? You need only one other person (it's easier and more fun with a buddy), a sign and an online presence (website or a social media profile or both). Go here for more info on starting a group: https://zerowastechef.com/2023/02/09/normalize-bring-your-own-containers/

BYO is one part of the solution to the scourge of plastic pollution. Let's normalize it everywhere!

First post of the year and not even a bouquet bag in sight. That’s because my resolution for you all this year is to take better care of your things and the planet. This is one of many many vintage bags in my collection, it’s PERFECT isn’t it?

It doesn’t matter if you bought it for 20$ at hm because thats all you can afford, AS LONG AS you take care of it and make it last as long as you can. That being said, if you can allow yourself, buy from local artists and designers. They (we) make the world a more beautiful place and they don’t harm the planet as much, in part because of the scale of their production.

That’s my resolution for us. Now the other reason this post is relevant is that it should hold me accountable to my other resolution which is to finally setup a vintage section on the website. I have so many good bags you guys!!

Im not at all here to preach, to prove it I will come clean and tell you I bought a pair of Ardene shoes for 18$ because that’s what I can afford right now lol - but I intend to take extra good care of them (considering they’re probably not of the utmost quality hahaha they need the extra care) and keep them a very long time.

That’s all, I think 🤔

Oh and I will go to the gym, eat better, have more s*x and not scream at my kid etc

Ta-ta for now my lovelies and a very happy new year to you all ❤️

How Bad Are Plastics, Really? 01/04/2022

''For decades, the industry has created the illusion that its problems are well under control, all while intensifying production and promotion. More plastics have been made over the past two decades than during the second half of the 20th century.''

How Bad Are Plastics, Really? Plastic production just keeps expanding, and now is becoming a driving cause of climate change.
