The edited version of my Houdini HIVE Tokyo 2025 talk “Adaptive Fracture Synthesis and Propagation in VEX using OpenSubdiv Limit Surface Derivatives” is now ready. This cut is created from my own QHD display-source recording, so the visual fidelity is significantly higher than the standard event capture.
Clocking in at 75 minutes (30 shorter than the raw 2-hour session), it has been meticulously tightened: idle moments trimmed, transitions polished, and the entire flow streamlined for maximum clarity and impact. This is the bilingual edition, featuring both the English delivery and the live Japanese translation presented in a clean, professional format.
This edit took 10 days to produce due to the full restructuring of timing, pacing, and audio alignment needed for a smooth viewing experience.
The English-only cut will come next.

Adaptive Fracture Synthesis and Propagation in VEX using OpenSubdiv Limit Surface Derivatives
I’m happy to share that my recent presentation “Adaptive Fracture Synthesis and Propagation in VEX using OpenSubdiv Limit Surface Derivatives” from Houdini Hive Tokyo 2025 will be available soon on the official SideFX YouTube channel.
It demonstrates a VEX-driven setup for procedural surface cracking on animated geometry, guided by curves, geodesic distances, and attribute gradients, with OpenSubdiv limit surface derivatives providing high-order sampling of positions, normals, and curvature.
It’s one of my favorite breakdowns, blending mathematical surface analysis with production-based procedural workflows inside Houdini.
Once the video is live, I’ll post the direct link here.

Supercharged extension is updated to be fully compatible with Houdini 20.
It also implements the latest changes to be more in line with the latest API, such as the new hotkey standard to use unmodified keys:

Motion Blur Trail SOP
https://www.patreon.com/posts/motion-blur-sop-49010468
Takes an input and makes a trail of each point over time, and connects the trails in different ways accounting for camera motion. This results in long streaky motion blur effects baked onto the points.
Uses the improved TimeBlend SOP that can blend between subframes for higher precision.

Using the Supercharged extension with Redshift which allows the network editor to be overlayed on top of the integrated Redshift render view seamlessly.

Vellum Cloth RND 1

Carves out polygons using a point attribute with the ability to define the carve values per primitive using primitive attributes.
Pure VEX implementation, 10x faster than the default Carve SOP (compiled). It preserves all available attributes.
It supports both open and closed polygons.
Setup: Simple GPU Explosion Shelf (without changing anything except Voxel Size)
In my tests the viewport size didn't seem to impact the performance.
Please post your results in this format and make sure to specify the variant of your GPU, i.e. desktop, laptop, max-q, max-p, etc:
GPU: RTX 6000 (laptop)
CPU: i9 9980HK
18 fps -> 3.3M voxels (Voxel Size: 0.1)
5.5 fps -> 27M voxels (Voxel Size: 0.05)
20 fpm -> 216M voxels (Voxel Size: 0.025)
Getting ~2 FPS using the new GPU pyro solver in H18.5 on RTX 6000 (laptop).
Incredible R&D effort by Side Effects Software to implement a GPU-based pyro solver!

Integrated Advanced Code Editor (Visual Studio Code)
https://www.patreon.com/posts/42395230
I started to implement an integrated advanced code editor based on the same editor that powers Visual Studio Code.
It practically has all the features one can ask for in a professional code editor.
There are still a few key things missing like better default color themes, etc, but it already has a lot of features that are simply not present in the default code editor in Houdini.
Patreon members will receive a free license once it's released.
