Blood moon

noun

‘the phenomenon whereby the moon in total eclipse appears reddish in color as it is illuminated by sunlight filtered and refracted by the earth’s atmosphere.’

‘Spiritually, the blood moon represents a period of looking within and coming to terms with the past and how it has shaped the present so you can build a more joyful and abundant future.‘

‘Many people see the Blood Moon as a powerful symbol of transformation and renewal. It’s a cosmic nudge to let go of the old and embrace the new, pushing us to reflect on our lives and the changes we need to make.’

‘The spiritual meaning of the blood moon is the opening of the path to exploring what is often referred to as our darker side, emotions such as rage, shame, and grief. These emotions are not widely acknowledged in our culture, and yet they exist.’

A few snaps in Tarifa of the sunset surfers during the Holidays, a calm day with minimal wind and clean waves.

While I still don’t know any details yet I see tonight with great sadness the 24 hour notice for residents in part of Imsouane to vacant and the destruction will come of the most picturesque part and one of my favourite areas to hike and walk down to go surf Cathedral. It was with the locals I fell in love with Imsouane, Morocco and surfing. And while I don’t know all the reasoning to this news, whether it be illegal homes or development projects or otherwise. It feels like part of my youth is gone with this area. While it’s ironic I post on social media to share this, considering if I could go back I would have never shared the secret of imsouane. As it was social media and influencers that create the chaotic surf tourism boom that may well be its demise to another tourist destination no longer full of peace and raw beauty of the heart of surfing.

May there be somehow a some silver lining we can’t see yet but that raw beauty of Moroccan coastlines and surf adventures may forever be remembered in my mind and old photos…Really wish I didn’t lose that hard drive from 2017 and the memories and surf photo gold that was on there.

Thinking of all those affective by the news.

Snapped a few shots of the Blue Moon tonight from the balcony.

I have a strange obsession of moon gazing.
🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑

I find the mystical power of its affects intriguing and to see it through the lens in detail is pretty breathtaking.

First Test Video with Kitesurfer Ismail Adarzane in Essaouira, Morocco. 04/14/2023

I played with video years ago, and while I love the creative process behind film, but I find the technical aspect a bit frustrating. Especially in real time with filming surfing/kitesurfing or any event that cannot be reproduced.

While studio work and directing is fun but much less challenging in the sense of lighting and movement (not to mention high speed gusty wind and blowing sand into your equipment.)

Using a tripod can be limiting along with the need for a slider, gimbals, stabilizers, etc for smooth transitions and panning. As well as heavy and expensive. Video is a whole other level. But it has been fun to try it out again this week. Looking forward to playing a bit more in the future.

Here is a small test video session with Ismail Adarzane Kiteboarding at Loving Surf and MOGASURF in Essaouira, Morocco.

While the session wasn't the most successful in terms of exposure, focus, smooth panning and sticky zooms along with missing some jumps and tricks. I am happy to be motivated with the results of hand held filming and spur of the moment shooting to kick start future video projects.

First Test Video with Kitesurfer Ismail Adarzane in Essaouira, Morocco. First video created with new Fujifilm XT-4 with 100-400mm lens and 1.5x magnifier. Mostly handheld with gusty winds. A challenging task but fun to get back t...

It was nice to do a road trip to Imsouane last weekend with the first person to show me the magic bay and surf Cathedral for the first time almost 5 years ago. Big thanks to geniune person and passionate surfer .

Had a great time shooting (since an ankle injury prevented any surfing for me)
