Hi,
Many of you know I have been a massage therapist and Buteyko Breathing educator for twenty nine years.

We'll soon be living in New Brunswick, but thanks to the wonders of space, we'll be on a screen, anywhere you want us. The Buteyko Breathing method offers a natural way of permanently dealing with asthma, chronic fatigue, snoring, sleep-apnoea and anxiety as well as a variety of digestive and fitness problems. You can learn to change your breathing pattern and make your body more efficient. Based

Good things are happening at the loft — and one of them involves lying down for 90 minutes. Link to the newsletter Above it All: Notes from my corner of The Loft. Mostly in-person news, but there's also an online Pranayama coming up soon.

Better Breathing for Trauma | Jennifer Snowdon 04/01/2026

Has anyone ever told you or your client to "just take a deep breath" — and it made things worse?
You're not alone. Traumatic stress changes the way we breathe, and even well-meaning breathwork can sometimes leave us feeling more overwhelmed, not less.
Better Breathing for Trauma is a 4-week webinar series with Jennifer & Laura that goes beyond the breath. We blend research-backed methods with somatic work, exercises that reset autonomic patterns, and an understanding of how mental and emotional states shape our breathing — so you can work with the whole picture, not just the inhale and exhale.
You'll leave with practical strategies to use breath and body as genuine resources for bodies holding trauma, whether for yourself or the people you support. There are practices built into the time between sessions, so learning doesn't stop when the call ends.
We start this Saturday — registration link below.

Why the Depth of a Tongue-Tie Release Matters

Not all tongue-tie releases are created equal—
and the depth of the release can make all the difference.

There are 3 levels:
1️⃣ Mucosa
2️⃣ Mucosa + fascia
3️⃣ Mucosa + fascia + genioglossus muscle

In about 50% of the patients I see, the restriction goes all the way down to the genioglossus muscle. In these cases, sometimes if only the surface is released, the root of the restriction often remains—and improvements are limited.

But here’s the catch:
Going too deep increases the risk of bleeding, swelling, and scarring. So the key isn’t just going deep—it’s going precisely to the right depth. That takes skill, experience, and intraoperative judgment.

That’s why we use the Zaghi Functional Frenuloplasty Protocol—a structured, evidence-based approach to release exactly what’s needed, not too much and not too little.

And just as important, we follow the Breathe Myofunctional Protocol to prepare and support the body before, during, and after surgery—for healing that lasts.

It is important to fully understand this process. Not to fear the process as it is surgery, but to get the proper assessment and advice to achieve the outcome required.
