Today has been incredible. I boarded an early flight to Toronto after being invited by and to attend the 2026 Skills Canada National Competition.
Today was just getting set up, visiting TikTok Canada’s office, and exploring the Enercare Centre where the competitions will be held. Wednesday evening is the opening ceremony, Thursday and Friday the competitions take place, and Saturday is the closing ceremony.
Super grateful, and very excited to be here. I’ll be sharing videos from the event over on TikTok!

The amount of people that legitimately think they could thin slice (by hand) 120 individual Roma tomatoes in 10-20 minutes is crazy 🤪
I would be horrified to see the inconsistency of the product you produce. We trim off the top where the stem is (later used to extract the tomato water) which is one cut. Then if one average size Roma yields 6 good slices, 7x120 is at the very least 840 individual knife cuts (just to slice, not dice).
10 minutes gives you 600 seconds. You’d need to produce 1.4 slices per second for 10 minutes straight. That’s not accounting for moving the finished slices into a container, then also moving the trim into separate containers. Both of these add at least 2 seconds per tomato.
You also need to account for the tomato being moved with your free hand, to your cutting board, which is also going to take at least one second, then when slicing, it rolls and you need to adjust your grip or angle so you remain consistent, which on average would add another second per tomato.
With that in mind, (2s + 1s) x 120 =360s
600 seconds - 360 seconds =240 seconds
So now without honing your knife, without wiping your board or your station, without stretching your back, without counting yield, etc. you now have to cut 3 and 1/2 tomato slices per second for 10 minutes.
I would challenge anyone, to record a video of you attempting to slice a 25lb box of Roma tomatoes and see how long it takes you 😂

A 25lb box of tomatoes. How long do you think it’ll take to slice them all?
