Stave Falls Railway

Did you know Mission, BC was once claimed to have the "shortest railroad in the world"?

Measuring only 10 km, the Stave Falls Railway was claimed by some to be the “shortest railroad in the world.” Chartered by the government, the line began operating in 1910 to transport freight to the dam site. In 1911 Robert Hayward, general manager at the Stave Falls power development, reported: “Without the railway, the construction work could not have been carried to completion.” Eventually, the mini-railway also carried passengers at a cost of 25 cents per person.

An inscription on the back of the posted photograph housed in the Community Archives, states the railway was operated by a “Daddy Moe from Missouri” and the “kids all loved him.”

So if the City of Mission was willing to amend use bylaws why is the pawn shop still prevented from moving next door to a building he pays for?

Where is the City support of downtown businesses if zoning can change unexpected resulting in other uses nearby?

What message does this send to potential entrepreneurs seeking to lease & open a business in Mission?

Zoning is easily changed except if the City doesn't like your business it is not?

We need a solid foundation to build a stronger town & business community.

Community Update - Temporary Emergency Shelter

At MCSS, our focus remains on supporting Mission residents who need a safe place to stay, including seniors, working individuals, families experiencing hardship, and long-time community members facing housing challenges.

We have heard the concerns of our community, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to share their perspective. The lease offer for the former Outlaws restaurant has been withdrawn. MCSS will not be moving forward with this property, and a temporary Use Permit Application for this location was not completed.

As the shelter operator, our role is to provide services and supports. Decisions regarding shelter locations and broader housing solutions involve government partners working alongside the City and community agencies.

We remain committed to respectful dialogue, transparency, and working collaboratively with our community to find solutions that strengthen Mission for everyone.
