Eugene has spent the past decade introducing and growing a portfolio of Asian-born concepts across Canada, from modern ramen and Vietnamese dining to contemporary Chinese cuisine and design-led hospitality experiences. Each launch begins with a single question: how can this brand resonate beyond its origins and speak to a broader Canadian audience?
Rather than reshaping these concepts to fit existing expectations, Eugene focuses on how they are experienced. He builds each venture through collaboration, working closely with brand founders and partners to ensure alignment in vision, values, and long-term direction.
In doing so, he is helping shift how Asian brands are perceived in North America: moving them beyond niche recognition toward broader cultural familiarity.

Torontonians may still remember when % Arabica first arrived in Toronto. The long lines, minimalist aesthetic, and excitement surrounding the brand marked a new moment for Asian lifestyle culture in Canada.
Behind that expansion is Eugene Chan, founder of Accencis Group, dedicated to introducing and growing Asian brands across North America. Raised between Richmond Hill and Hong Kong, Eugene grew up noticing how Asian businesses could thrive within their own communities while remaining disconnected from mainstream audiences.
That early observation would later shape his mission: building cultural bridges through food, lifestyle, and shared experiences that resonate beyond cultural boundaries.
From specialty coffee and dining concepts to future wellness and family ventures, Eugene continues to build platforms through which Asian culture can be experienced, understood, and embraced by new generations.

Several of our readers enjoyed Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu’s concert in Toronto last Tuesday. Enjoy a short reflection and recap of the concert by a music-lover and singer herself! Asian artists touring in North America are moments that remind us of how live performances can create a sense of closeness, nostalgia, and shared cultural connection across geographies.

On April 28, 2026, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu 盧廣仲 brought his HeartBreakFast World Tour to Toronto. This marked his return to North America after eight years since his last visit in 2018. Toronto’s “Little Team Members” (小隊員, the nickname of Crowd Lu’s fans) finally received the musical cocktail we had long been waiting for.

At Mimi Chinese and Sunnys Chinese, Braden Chong’s approach is grounded in reimagination rather than reinvention. His work begins with the understanding that Chinese cuisine is not a single language, but a collection of regional traditions, techniques, and histories that continue to evolve.
Braden focuses on how Chinese food is experienced: how dishes travel, adapt, and take on new meaning in different contexts, while remaining connected to their origins. This perspective allows space for familiarity and change to exist side by side, often evoking memory or a familiar flavour without separating the two.
Working closely with his team at Mimi and Sunnys, every dish reflects this approach, with new interpretations, experience, and conversation behind each one.

Braden Chong’s relationship with food began at home, within a Chinese-Canadian upbringing shaped by Cantonese home cooking and everyday family meals in Toronto. For him, food was part of routine, memory, and connection.
Growing up as the youngest of three brothers, with grandparents who immigrated from Guangzhou in the 1950s, Chong was surrounded by the flavours and traditions of southern Chinese cooking, alongside the realities of a multicultural Canadian household. Meals often moved between Cantonese dishes and other everyday foods, reflecting a home shaped by multiple influences.
Although he did not initially set out to become a chef, his curiosity about food eventually led him through formal culinary training in Western techniques, followed by experience working in kitchens in Toronto and Japan, each stage adding to his understanding of discipline, craft, and regional cooking traditions.
These experiences form the foundation of his work today at Mimi Chinese and Sunnys Chinese in Toronto.
