DEEP TISSUE THERAPY πββοΈ .
β’
When foam rolling and stretching are difficult or don't quite do the trick, find a healthcare professional to do some deep tissue work πββοΈ .
β’
Me and my awesome team π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ of Chiropractors, Registered Massage Therapists, Physiotherapists, Certified Athletic Therapists, and Registered Kinesiologists all perform some variation of deep tissue therapy. This isn't the be all and end all treatment, but for some it is definitely needed πββοΈ .
β’
Unfortunately, it's a myth that I have a steel elbow πͺ. But it is indeed pointy β .
β’
Come through for some deep tissue work among other treatments based on our assessments π¨π»ββοΈ .

MINDFULNESS π§ββοΈ .
β’
Being aware of your body, your mind and your surroundings is an important aspect that not every person understands.
β’
Take a step back, be true to the mind, clear out your storage, practice what you preach and focus on your goals.
β’
Understand the grind to understand the mind πͺπ .

SHOULDER PROTRACTION-RETRACTION πββοΈ .
β’
When it comes to the shoulder, it's not about how much we can lift or how massive your arms are. We need to focus on the stability aspect while maintaining mobility. That might be a bit of a hard concept to understand π€ .
β’
Being a previous volleyball athlete and coach as well as treating a huge number of shoulders as a healthcare practitioner, I've seen and dealt with ALOT of shoulders πͺ.
β’
An important component of shoulder mobility is protraction and retraction movements. Being able to control our shoulder and shoulder blade is important for all athletes and non-athletes alike π€ΈββοΈ .
β’
We live in a technology enhanced society nowadays which can also have a long lasting impact on our future shoulders π€³ . In this case, mobility is key π .
β’
For the injured or overused shoulders, we need to properly stabilize and strengthen the shoulder and rotator cuff muscles and tendons ποΈββοΈ . In this case, we are looking at stability β .
β’
Oftentimes, we work on both mobility and stability in combination in order to recover from injury and provide the most optimal and best functioning shoulder possible π.
β’
Make sure to find a healthcare practitioner who can properly assess and treat all of those needs π .
β’
Otherwise, you know who to call πββοΈ .

Cupping β .
β’
An ancient alternate form of treatment that consists of vaccuum suction created by plastic, silicone or glass cups intended to assist with healing of the body πββοΈ .
β’
Some of the possible benefits include: decrease in pain, activation of the immune system, anti-inflammatory effects, blood detoxification and recovery π .
β’
Be mindful that most of the time cupping therapy would leave a circular red/black/purple bruising in the area of suction π΄β« . You may have seen it on some high performance athletes one time or another ππ»ββοΈ .
β’
Since there has not been a lot of research (and quality research) on cupping, the current evidence does NOT prove that cupping is actually effective in that it can promote healing or recovery. There are a small number of studies that suggest a mild improvement with certain conditions or injuries. However, we can't fully conclude that it actually works for it's intended purpose π€¦ββοΈ .
β’
Nonetheless, many healthcare practitioners may use cupping therapy as an alternative option depending on the specific needs of the patient, injury or condition πββοΈ .
β’
And don't forget, it also looks cool β .

PERSEVERANCE π .
β’
We all choose to do what we want to do, for now or for later. Self-fulfillment comes from reaching our goals. No matter how easy or how difficult, keep pushing yourself. Go beyond your limits. No matter how quickly or how long it takes, never give up on your dreams π .
β’
Often times success feels THAT much better when you have endured extreme hardship along the way πββοΈ .
β’
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again β .

JUMP TRAINING πββοΈ
β’
With a lack of sports and activities recently and within the past year, many of our sports specific skills have diminished π€¦ββοΈ .
β’
Jump training, plyometrics and explosiveness should be performed while having a strong and stable core and our legs have the strength to push hard and fast with a quick burst of energy π₯ .
β’
Working through a series of basic core exercises and balance first is key π . Followed by limb specific strengthening and speed to get you to your top.
β’
Weathers getting better. Sport season is slowly coming back. This is the best time for off-season training. It's now or never.
β’
is at 36 inches and counting. How high can you go? π

LOCKDOWN - UNLOCKED π
β’
Mid-Feb 2021, another new beginning.
β’
One and a half months into the new year and we can finally get into more of the swing of things. My hood in York region is shifting into the Red Zone π΄ which only means to me more opportunities, growth, development and hope π . Understanding the severity of the current pandemic, we still need to take major precautions and its not the time to stop now.
β’
It's been a bit of a rough start for all of us but even more reason to shift our focus now and lock in π even harder.
β’
Latest start ever, but better late than never β .

FUNCTIONAL REHAB πͺ .
β’
Working out is one thing, but functional rehab is something that needs to be targeted π― .
β’
It's not about how heavy you can lift. It's important to remember that form, function and technique is most important, especially after sustaining an injury ππΌββοΈ .
β’
Reach for the stars, but pick up some stones before takeoff π .
