As part of activities marking the 30th Anniversary celebration of Black History Month in Toronto, Canada, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts of the Republic of Ghana, Honourable Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the High Commissioner of Ghana to Canada, Her Excellency Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh and officials from the Mission both Toronto and Ottawa participated in the screening of the film “The Eyes of Ghana” held on 19th and 21st February 2026 at the Toronto Pan Afrikan Film Festival (TPAFF).

The event formed part of the City of Toronto’s month‑long commemoration of Black History Month and provided a platform to highlight Ghana’s historical journey, its leadership in Pan‑Africanism, and the contributions of Ghanaian creatives to global cultural heritage. The screenings also offered an opportunity to engage with members of the African and Caribbean diaspora, cultural institutions, academics, students, and community leaders.

“The Eyes of Ghana” documents Ghana’s early independence era through the work of veteran cinematographer Chris Hesse, who served as the personal cameraman to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The film, directed by Oscar‑winning filmmaker Ben Proudfoot and executive‑produced by President Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama, has renewed global interest in the preservation of African historical archives. The Minister and the High Commissioner commended the producer, Nana Adwoa Frimpong, for her leadership in bringing the documentary to international audiences.
