1966 Hofner bass pickup repair 🎸
A customer sent this pickup in with one working coil and one dead coil. Instead of immediately rewinding it, I was able to track down the break in the original coil wire and repair it.
That meant preserving the original 1966 winding and getting the pickup working again without a full rewind.
This video walks through the repair process from diagnosis to final fix.

At BTone, we do more than choose between Alnico 2, Alnico 5 and ceramic. We can charge or deliberately undercharge a magnet to a specific gauss level to help shape the pickup’s response and feel.
In this video, I show how we measure and control magnet strength as another way to shape tone at the source.
