It's time for pesto! Every few weeks during summer our basil gets a trim and I make a batch of pesto. Our food processor can make 4 jars at a time- I cook one for dinner and freeze the other 3 for the winter. I use walnuts instead of pine nuts (so much cheaper) and I honestly can't tell the difference.
Delicious!

When life gives you plums... you dehydrate them! Seriously we have SO many plums this year. I'll have the dehydrator running 24/7 until we run out.

Summer is in full swing and the fruit is overflowing in our kitchen. We're having our best blueberry year yet, and the plum tree is sagging with the weight of the fruit waiting to be picked!

It's getting wild out here! Between surprise visitors and our own little adventurers, farm life is never boring.

This spring has been all about the strawberries! Seriously, I can't keep up! I've been freezing them as they ripen and plan on making the most delicious strawberry jam when I have more time on my hands.

Did you know that chickens have preferred nesting boxes? We have 8 nesting boxes but our hens INSIST on only using 4 of them. Sometimes that means there are 2 or 3 hens in one box laying an egg at the same time! (Not pictured - SEVEN empty nesting boxes while these two crowd their favourite one).

Adventures in chicken farming... 🐔
A few of our girls have been getting picked on, which means other hens are picking feathers off of their backs giving them bald spots. This weekend I am testing out these chicken saddles, which protect the bald spots and give the hens time to grow back their feathers. (Plus they look so fashionable 😎)

Happy Mothers Day! Isla picked me a beautiful bouquet this morning that rivals the one Dad bought at the store.

The sun was shining this weekend so we got to work planting our summer garden. We planted lots of radishes, kohlrabi, carrots, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, and zucchini. Lots more to come as the weather warms up!
