The first day of school often arrives quietly like this morning light… Yet it carries so many emotions.
Excitement. Relief. Grief. Hope.
Some families are ready for routine to return, for structure and predictability to settle back in.
Others are feeling the ache of letting go- missing slow mornings, extra cuddles, and the closeness that winter break offers.
I’m holding both today.
With a big birthday on the horizon in our home, I’ve been deeply aware of how precious that one-on-one time has been this break. Watching how quickly seasons shift both in nature and in parenting. It can be beautiful and bittersweet all at once.
Whatever you’re feeling today: it makes sense.
There’s no “right” way to experience this transition. Multiple emotions can exist together and often do.
Be gentle with yourself and your kids today.
Transitions deserve compassion.

Families are messy. Parenting is hard.
Anyone telling you otherwise is lying.
You can love your kids fiercely
and still feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure. Both can be true.
Pause. Take care of yourself.
Regulated parents raise resilient kids, not perfect ones.
Support isn’t a weakness.
It’s how you stay in the game.

A few things I say all the time in session.
Tiny reminders for big feelings. If one of them lands, that’s on purpose.

Does your family do elf on the shelf? When my daughter was young, we started this tradition. We adapted some of the “rules” and made an our own. Now with a nearly 16-year-old, our elf lemon, still pops by every year.
Feel free to share your elf ideas below.
elf on a shelf I caved this year- Elf on the Shelf December 8, 2013 Over the last few years I’ve seen Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram be polluted from photos of a little red elf hiding in homes and making messes. Up until this year I was not interested in A) cleaning up after the little thing B) remem...

In 2013, you’ll attend your very first birth.
Years later, that baby will become an artist and they will paint you a picture. You’ll hang it in your counselling office because it means everything.
When I was a new counsellor, a mentor told me to always keep one grounding piece of art in my office… something to look at when the stories get heavy.
This is mine. And it feels full circle in the best way.

I finally finished my last day in Regus! Next week is the start of
It’s been a meaningful chapter, but it’s time to step into a space that aligns more fully with the work I love doing. Change is always a mix of emotions, so here’s my little goodbye-and-hello list:
What I’ll Miss:
• The amazing reception team
• Some of the lovely Regus practitioners
• The pigeons who landed on my window sill
What I won’t Miss:
• Packing my lamp, clock, art, supplies, games, computer… every. single. day.
• Toilets that don’t flush (enough said)
• The rent cost
• Paying for parking
• The unpredictable heat/AC
• Whoever makes popcorn in the shared microwave (you live boldly)
What I’m Excited For:
• Mid-shift adjustments
• Vitamins + supplements at my fingertips
• Working alongside community leaders in perinatal care
• A truly kid-friendly environment
Here’s to new beginnings, aligned spaces, and feeling more at home in my work than ever.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote, share, and support local counsellors and small businesses in our community. Your encouragement truly means the world.
As I prepare to move into a beautiful new space later this month, I’m filled with gratitude for the continued trust this community places in me. I’m excited to welcome both new and returning clients- children, teens, parents, and perinatal families into this next chapter.
Thank you, Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows, for your ongoing support and care.

A Wave of Light
On November 15 at 7 PM, I’ll be lighting a candle in remembrance of the babies gone too soon.
This small act creates a wave of light that connects families and communities around the world who hold space for love, grief, and remembrance.
Whether your loss was recent or long ago, you’re not alone in this moment of reflection.
Light your candle, take a breath, and know that your love continues to ripple outward.
