For the optimistic it’s almost Spring 😃
We even had a dusting if snow recently.
It might still be cold, even frosty in the mornings, but the days are quickly becoming longer and the light brighter and the spring flowers are popping everywhere.
Hang innthere folks it’s nearly ready to plan for hanging basket season.

But first I’m taking a break in March and April, back in May ready to serve all my customers with whatever their needs are for their Plant Booster Self Watering systems.

US Tariff Update for orders from US customers
Since 29 August 2025 Canada Post has been obliged to ensure that prepayment of "duties" via the Zonos Duty Pay App have been made for the contents of a package being sold to a US customer before accepting it for postage.
Whereas the Tariff is supposed to be 35%, it is much worse in practice.
A 2 Pack, currently selling for $34 CAD now attracts a duty (plus a clearance and processing fee) of $16.08 CAD - which is just over 47% !!!, and for a 6 Pack currently selling for $77 CAD the duty and fee adds $32.64, or just over 42%.
The picture is a screenshot of the Zonos calculation for a 6 Pack. Sadly there is no way my business can afford to absorb any of these costs and this needless cost must be passed on to US customers. Nevertheless, the 6 Pack remains a really good deal considering the cost per plant and the ease of use.

Pro tips:
1) as the weather warms up during most of the day your plants will be demanding water to keep up. Unless there is water dripping from the bottom of the basket there is no need to adjust anything.
2) although it is true that as your hanging basket plants grow bigger and bigger and overall the basket is becoming heavier the vast majority of weight is in the moist soil. If you trimmed all the extra growth off and weighed it it would be relatively light, so again, unless your plants are looking a bit saggy or withered in the afternoon there is no need to adjust anything except trim off any dead-heads.
3) if you do need to adjust the water drip rate do it in very small increments; avoiding over adjusting and hunting for the sweet spot. Small adjustments are best.

Cost of 6 hanging baskets = anywhere from $300 to $800 for each season. Beautiful but not cheap, especially if they don't last all season !!
Cost of an Economy 6 pack (for 6 hanging baskets) = $77.
System lasts a lifetime but parts or all of the tubing will need patching or replacement perhaps twice in 5 years = $50
Shipping costs for the above about $40
Total cost = $167 (for at least 5 years of fun!)
Cost, per plant, per year, over 5 years = $167/6/5 = $5.57
