Yesterday a new inquiry landed in my inbox.

The request? A massive, last-minute package for the upcoming opening match of the FIFA World Cup. Premium hotel, prime match tickets, tight timelines. The estimated total came out to just over $31,050.00 CAD for 1 night.

The text messages were flying in every 30 minutes. The urgency was palpable.

But when you have been designing travel for a decade, you learn to spot the difference between genuine traveler excitement and the frantic rush of a digital scammer trying to bypass the rules.

I didn't panic, and I didn't get stars in my eyes over a big number. Instead, I ran him through my exact same standard system.

I sent over our secure procurement form. It required mandatory passport uploads, a verified credit card authorization, and a non-refundable emergency consulting fee to clear before I lifted a finger on the weekend.
