๐ Recovery is a journey โ and you don't have to walk it alone.
When a craving hits, remember: the urge will pass. It typically peaks and fades within 15โ30 minutes. While you wait it out, try delaying your reaction, taking a short walk, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply breathing slowly and deeply.
And when things feel hard, connection is your strongest tool. Whether it's your 1-on-1 counsellor, a group program, or a peer support worker โ one check-in can make all the difference.
Having a Relapse Prevention Plan also helps you stay one step ahead. Know your triggers. Spot your warning signs early. Keep your coping strategies and your support list close.
You've made it through every hard moment so far. You can make it through this one too. ๐ค

โEvery person is someone.
Someoneโs child.
Someoneโs sibling.
Someoneโs parent.
Someoneโs friend.
No oneโs worth disappears because they struggle with addiction.
A lot of people living with addiction have gone without the support, stability, safety, or understanding they needed long before substance use ever entered the picture. Behind every addiction is a story most people never hear โ trauma, grief, isolation, poverty, mental health struggles, loss, or simply trying to survive.
Healing rarely begins with judgment.
It begins with being seen as human again.
People deserve individualized care, compassion, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives at their own pace and in their own way.
Everyone deserves the chance to heal.
Everyone deserves the chance to be seen beyond their worst moments.โ

Some of the most important work happening in communities is being done quietly by grassroots organizations.
Not because they have massive budgets, large marketing teams, or endless resources โ but because they know the people, the streets, the families, and the realities behind the statistics.
Grassroots support means:
๐showing up before funding exists,
๐answering calls after hours,
๐helping someone move into housing,
๐making sure someone has food,
๐checking in when a person disappears,
and continuing to care even when progress is slow.
Real community change rarely starts in boardrooms alone.
It starts in conversations, relationships, trust, and people deciding not to give up on one another.
When businesses, donors, and community members support grassroots organizations, they are not simply funding a program.
They are helping create:

At my lowest before I got sober, I was sleeping in alleys in Kamloops. I was using he**in, m**h, and crack co***ne, and I had lost connections with my family. I was on my own in addiction.
I decided to change my life and step up.
What I did was come back out to Abbotsford, and my uncle Gordon helped me get into Kinghaven Treatment Centre for 70 days.
From there, I sent out applications and met Louise. Louise got me into housing at Fraser Valley Addictions & Recovery Hub. That housing saved my life.
Today I am 16 months sober.
I lost my wife because of drugs, and that is the worst thing that happened to me. I have a beautiful daughter who is 24 years old and a granddaughter who is 7. They are my many reasons to stay sober.
Within a year and a half, I rebuilt my connections with my family. Now I am going to family functions again. My granddaughter had her first sleepover with me, and that means so much to me.
I made a really good friend in the housing, Ryan, and having positive people around me helped a lot.
Now I am getting my own place and getting my life back. I am paying my own bills and learning responsibility again. You really have to retrain yourself โ how to manage money, pay bills, and be responsible again.
No matter who you are or where you are in life at that moment, you are loved. There is hope for everyone.
You can do it for yourself. Donโt worry about others first โ you have to take care of yourself too.
Hard work and positivity โ anyone can make it.

Motherโs Day can hold many emotions for many different people. ๐
Today, weโre thinking about the mothers who continue to show up through heartbreak, worry, healing, and hope.
The mothers who are in recovery.
The mothers supporting children through addiction and mental health struggles.
The mothers grieving distance, loss, or broken relationships.
The mothers rebuilding trust one day at a time.
And the mothers doing their best quietly, even when no one sees it.
Addiction impacts entire families, and behind so many recovery journeys is often a mother who never stopped caring, never stopped hoping, and never stopped praying for things to get better.
Today we want to recognize all mothers, in every stage of life and healing.
To the mothers carrying heavy things while still showing love every day

Thereโs som**hing meaningful about caring for the outside of a home when you finally feel safe enough to slow down and breathe again. ๐ฑ
Many of the individuals in our transitional housing program have spent years in survival mode. Gardening, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, and taking care of a shared space may seem small to some people, but for many of our clients, it becomes part of rebuilding routine, confidence, responsibility, and peace within themselves.
Research has shown that gardening and time spent outdoors can help reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression while improving overall mental well-being and self-esteem.
As the seasons change, we are reaching out to our community for support with:

๐ฟ Topsoil
๐ฟ Flowers, plants, and garden supplies
These donations help our clients maintain the homes they are grateful to have and create outdoor spaces that feel peaceful, welcoming, and therapeutic.

Recovery looks different for everyone.
Sometimes it starts with simply showing up, listening, learning new tools, and realizing you are not alone.
Our SMART Recovery meetings create space for people to connect, reflect, and build healthier coping strategies in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
This week, Anna shared participant tools and worksheets that help individuals work through challenges, triggers, and everyday life in practical ways.
Whether someone is early in their journey, maintaining recovery, or just looking for community, these meetings are open to anyone wanting support and connection.
