Getting all the stacks put together for our new season. Some males have started harching in the fridge, so its time they go out. When you put out your tunnel stacks, make sure you have put a piece of cardboard on the back. This makes the mason bees feel safe and prevents parasites from mining out the back of the clay tunnels while the bees work at the front.

Things are starting to bloom outside!! Catkins are one of our early pollen sources that mason bees LOVE to collect from. Male mason bees depend on many of these early sources of pollen because they emerge 2 weeks prior to the females. Im waiting a few more weeks before putting my stacks out.

It's our mason bee cocoon cleaning day. We had a good year for cocoons, but persistent woodpeckers definitely caused us to lose over half our babies. 😞 We keep trying year after year to keep up with everyone who wants bees. Nature will do what nature does. ❤️ Stay tuned for our reel that will go over the cleaning process from beginning to end. 🐝 If you are local to Maple Ridge and want cocoons for the 2024 Spring year, message us and we will put you on our cocoon list.

It's been a while since we've posted a bit about us. Bees and pollinators are our usual focus but we wanted to introduce ourselves again. I'm Sarah, and this is my husband Rob. We build, educate and raise blue orchard mason bees. 🐝 We live in British Columbia, Canada and are working to get pollinators in backyards all around our community. It's fun to see all the excitement as people learn all about these amazing pollinators. How long have you been working with pollinators?

School fun! All summer I collected materials from our family adventures. So excited to see the kids enjoying them all.
