London and Area Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Racing Team. We Are Rowbust! Rowbust Dragon Boat Racing Team is not your average sports team.
Every member of this team is a breast cancer survivor. We’ve all been faced with life-threatening situations and have beaten the odds. In essence, we have defeated our dragons and now we race them! In the spring of 2000, Dr. Annette Richard appeared in a newspaper article discussing the benefits of exercise and Breast Cancer survival. She encouraged survivors to attend an information session and from that the Rowbust BCS Dragon Boat Racing Team was born! Dragon boating for Breast Cancer Survivors (BCS) celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. The sport has grown from one team in 1995 to over 150 worldwide in 2015. Through mentorship of other breast cancer survivors, in London and area, Rowbust members are role models who are committed to education and raising awareness in our community about the many positive benefits of physical activity after breast cancer in order to achieve the highest quality of life. We train year round to get stronger and faster on the water, but we also provide friendship and support for each other through our journeys of survivorship and, all too often, the journey back through cancer. Members we have lost become the angels who push us forward. We provide hope and support for those who continue to fight cancer, and others who unfortunately must face it for the first time. Rowbust’s core values are: Integrity, Respect and Dedication to Excellence. These values are incorporated into every team decision we make and help to ensure a positive, meaningful experience for all members. Rowbust competes in Regional, National and International dragon boat racing competitions. We are EIGHT TIME (2010 – 2017) National Champions as well as TWO TIME Club Crew World Champions (CCWC) in the BCS division. Prior to 2010 there was not a BCS division at the Canadian National level and it was Rowbust who were pioneers in getting the division recognized by Dragon Boat Canada. Gaining National recognition meant we were eligible to compete at the CCWC who, in 2014, opened its doors to the BCS division for the first time! In 2014, Rowbust travelled to Ravenna, Italy for the CCWC and paddled our way to win GOLD in three race distances of 200m, 500m and 2000m! Returning to CCWC in Adelaide, Australia in 2016 we successfully defended our title to become two-time Club Crew WORLD Champions. We are also an active member team of the International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission (IBCPC) and attend the International Participatory event held every four years. This festival is the ULTIMATE Celebration of Sisterhood & Survivorship!

It’s National Coaches Week, and we’re pretty sure Rowbust hit the coaching jackpot — because we have THREE of the best! 💗🐉
Head Coach Cheryl McLachlan, Coach Sue Mitchell, and Coach Geoff Johnston each bring their own unique style, strengths, experience and personality to our team. And somehow, those different approaches complement each other perfectly.
Great coaches don’t just teach technique or write training plans. They see potential in you — sometimes before you see it in yourself. They challenge you when they know you have more to give, encourage you when you’re struggling, celebrate the breakthroughs, and keep raising the bar because they know you can reach it.
Cheryl, Sue and Geoff have a way of pulling the best out of us. They make us want to work harder, get stronger, improve, and be the best athletes and teammates we can be.
They push us. They believe in us. They remind us what we’re capable of. And through all the hard practices, early mornings, tough workouts, races, victories and lessons along the way, they are right there with us.
This National Coaches Week, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to Cheryl, Sue and Geoff for the time, energy, knowledge and heart you invest in Rowbust.

What a fantastic day on beautiful Fanshawe Lake! 🐉🏒☀️
Today, Coach Cheryl McLachlan hosted a team-building event for the Guelph Gryphons Women’s Varsity Hockey Team, with a little help from some of our Rowbust ladies!
As a proud University of Guelph alumna, Cheryl had the opportunity to bring together two worlds she knows well — sharing the teamwork, communication and determination of dragon boating with this incredible group of athletes.
It was a successful day filled with hard work, teamwork and plenty of fun on the water! 💪❤️💛🖤
Rowbust was proud to have the opportunity to be part of their day and support these talented young women. We wish the Gryphons every success in the season ahead — Go Gryphons! 🏒🐉

The crews brought the energy and worked hard today as we gear up for our last festival of the 2026 season next weekend in Stratford!
It’s hard to believe another amazing season is almost behind us, but we’re ready to make this final festival unforgettable. One more race, one more chance to give it everything we’ve got and leave it all on the water! 💪🐲

From travel adventures, racing challenges and schedule changes to shirt trading, new friendships and the beautiful flower ceremony—our 46 paddlers and 17 supporters are bringing home memories to last a lifetime.
Through it all, both crews raced with strength, followed the plan and made their coaches, Captain and Rowbust family proud.
