Alberta typically has hot dry summers and cold dry winters. Many of the homes do not have air conditioning or any means of humidity control. Typically it’s not really needed here. However, this summer has had record rainfall amounts and now as we get into July we’re getting the heat and continued rain. This is keeping humidity levels much higher than the norm, (70-90%) and homes without AC or dehumidifiers may suffer some consequences like mold growth and/or water damage.

Here are some tips for controlling your indoor humidity levels:

1 - keep windows closed when outdoor humidity is above 70%

2 - get a dehumidifier and/or potable air conditioners to help reduce humidity in the home, (or get central air conditioning installed if your budget allows for it)

3 - Run your furnace fan continuously. This helps circulate air and balances out the humidity levels in different parts of the home

4- Reduce bathroom fan and/or HRV use when exterior humidity levels are above 70% (this draws air from outside into the home)

Brand new “legal suite”. Would you be upset with this contractor?

It’s very common for under-mounted sinks to be installed without any mechanical fasteners. Simply hanging them below the counter with only caulking to support something of water and dishes is a recipe for disaster. The question I have is whose job is it? The plumbers or the countertop installers?

Haven’t posted in a while! It’s been a busy spring. Here is a funky light switch mounted near the floor. 🤔
