On the West Coast, outdoor living isn't a season, it's a design priority.

This back exterior from a Surrey Renovation went from a plain two story home with a bare upper deck to two full levels of covered outdoor living, connected by a new staircase. Upstairs is a vaulted, lit dining porch. Downstairs is a covered patio finished with glass railings and built for evening use, exactly what you see here at twilight.

The goal was never to trade the yard for the deck, it was to give this family more of both indoor and outdoor living. Why choose when you can have both!

From kitchen addition to whole-home renovation, sometimes the project grows because the home asks for it.

That's exactly what happened with Greywood Retreat, a Surrey renovation. The project quickly turned into a full interior and exterior transformation, because once we stepped into the space, it was clear the whole home could work better for how this family actually lives.

The great room now centres around an open-concept layout built to fit a 7-foot harvest table, with an exposed brick feature wall carried through to the ensuite. Rustic pieces throughout keep the design warm rather than showroom-perfect.

That kind of scope growth takes patience, both from the family living through it and the team building it. The result is a home that fits how they actually live in it.

From framed skeleton to finished stair. Watch the same staircase move from rough lumber and structural framing, through the drywall and rough-carpentry stage, to the finished oak treads and glass railing panel homeowners actually see and use.

It's easy to only notice a staircase once it's built: the railing height, the tread depth, the sightlines from the entry. All of that gets decided and adjusted long before the final coat of finish goes on.
