There’s a psychological side to skateboarding that often goes unnoticed. Every attempt involves nervous system responses, emotional regulation, pressure, hesitation, recovery, adaptation + self-trust.

Athletes aren’t fearless.... Most are simply learning how to perform while fear is still present.

One of the biggest misconceptions around confidence is believing it needs to come first. But psychologically, confidence is often built through progression itself; through repeated exposure, recovery, adaptation, and experience.

This is part of why skate culture creates such a strong connection. Everyone understands what it feels like to struggle for something, fail publicly, regulate emotion, and keep showing up anyway.

Bluebird was built from a belief that movement matters deeply to confidence, identity, resilience and emotional wellbeing.

What started through skateboarding has grown into community centered programming focused on the human side of sport and movement.

Bluebird offers spaces for:

•Youth
•Athletes
•Women and moms
•Community connections
•Confidence development
•Emotionally-informed athlete support

This is about more than tricks. It's about learning how to handle fear, pressure, failure, growth, belonging and self trust through movement and community.

Based in the Waterloo Region with ability to do some travel. Open to collaborations, partnerships, workshops and community programming.

Bluebird started with skateboarding and somewhere along the way, I realized it was never really just about skateboarding.

It was about the kid standing at the top of something scary trying to convince themselves to go anyway. And about the confidence being built slowly through progression, failure, repetition, support, and nervous system regulation.

It was about the community... that belonging, identity, movement and resistance you feel and experience.

Over the last year, I found myself pulling together every part of my life that once felt separated: mental health and addictions work, youth support, psych, movement, skate culture, nervous system awareness, motherhood, confidence, fear, emotional environments and storytelling.

Bluebird is growing into something much bigger than the brand it started as! I'm officially open Bluebird programming and workshops focused on youth wellness, confidence development, emotional resilience, athlete wellness, community connection, and psychological informed movement experiences.

This work is built over her 15 years in mental health and addictions nursing, along with coaching, use programming, and a deep belief that movement can become a place where people reconnect with themselves and each other.

NOT technical skate coaching or therapy.

I'm excited to finally be sharing this next part of Bluebird.

Workshops, collaborations, and programming inquiries are now open through my website.

Please check it out! There is a section called 'The Story' to learn more about me and Bluebird as well as a section called 'Programs + Event Services'.

Skate videos did more than influence tricks or style, they taught people how to be seen trying.

You watch skaters slam hard, miss tricks over and over, get frustrated, laugh, reset, and eventually land something after what looked like hundreds of attempts sometimes. The process isnt hidden from you.

That matters psychologically.

Repeated exposure to failure changes how the brain perceives embarrassment, fear, and risk. Psychology sometimes refers to part of this as Vicarious Experience: watching other people move through difficulty changes our own sense of what’s possible.

That energy exists all through skate culture. In videos like Photosynthesis, Static III, This Is Skateboarding, or newer projects like Homie Cam, the process still matters. The slams stay in.. . the battles stay in. Looking unfinished stays in! As it should .. it's real.

And honestly, that feels important right now.

Modern algorithms often reward polished outcomes, but skateboarding still leaves room for people to look human while they learn. And hell, we need this right now... it's a damn battlefield out there comparing ourselves to AI and ridiculous edits.

Maybe that’s part of why skate videos continue to matter so much culturally.

To the creators of these pieces of work... Don't stop. It matters and so do you 💙⚡
