Visitor visa refusal rates in Canada have climbed sharply - in 2024, more than half of all visitor visa applications were refused.

For some countries, the rate exceeds 60 percent.

Reapplying with the same documents and the same letter almost never changes the outcome. IRCC tracks prior refusals, and a new application that does not address the reasons for the first refusal is likely to be refused again.

The most common reason for refusal: not enough proof that the applicant will return home after the visit. Strong ties to your home country - property, employment, family - need to be documented clearly.

If a family member's visa was refused, it is worth understanding why before reapplying.

For Judicial Review, the deadline is 15 days if your application was processed inside Canada, and 60 days if processed outside Canada.

That clock starts the moment you receive your refusal letter - not when you read it, not when you talk to a lawyer.

These are among the strictest deadlines in Canadian immigration law. Missing them means losing the right to challenge the decision entirely.

The Super Visa is one of the most practical immigration options for families in Canada right now.

With the Parents and Grandparents PR sponsorship program essentially paused for most applicants, the Super Visa has become the main path to bring parents or grandparents to Canada for an extended stay - up to 5 years per entry, on a visa valid for up to 10 years.

To qualify, the host (that is you, the child or grandchild in Canada) needs to meet the minimum income threshold set by IRCC. You also need to arrange Canadian health insurance for the applicant for at least one year.

It is more paperwork than a regular visitor visa. But for families who want time - real time - together, it is worth it.
