Today is Earth Day. But so is tomorrow. And the day after that. 🌿

We live in a place that makes that pretty easy to remember. The bunchgrass grasslands, rare and resilient. The sagebrush ecosystems, found almost nowhere else in BC. The watershed, alive with wings and movement and incredibly over 200 bird species, bighorn sheep, osprey, painted turtles and more. This valley holds stories older than us, and futures that depend on what we choose now.

As the season unfolds and you find yourself outside on the trails, by the river, in the hills, please move with care. Carry out what you carry in. Stay on the trail. Respect the distance between you and wildlife. Leave no trace, or better yet, leave it better. This land gives a lot, let's follow that lead 🀎

On Earth Day, we take a moment to reflect on our connection to the land and the responsibility we share in caring for it. Caring for our land is not just something we do today, but a responsibility we carry every day through respect, stewardship, and collective action.

As a community, we continue to come together to protect the lands, waters, and natural spaces that support all life, ensuring they remain strong and healthy for the generations yet to come.

Every act of care, no matter how small, helps build a more sustainable future. 🌎

🌊Thank you, Kamloops. πŸ’š
Yesterday was a powerful reminder of what community can accomplish together.

More than 175 volunteers showed up to clean our shoreline, joined by 20 amazing volunteers who hosted booths and our generous partners and supporters who helped make the day possible.

✨ Because of your time, energy, and care, an incredible 600 kg (1,322 lb.) of garbage was removed from our beach. That’s cleaner water, safer habitats for wildlife, and a healthier place for everyone to enjoy.

πŸ’™ We are so grateful for your dedication, teamwork, and love for our community.

Adaptation is essential in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment. The Province of British Columbia is responding by developing a preliminary framework to streamline decision-making on major projects and infrastructure under provisions of the πΌπ‘›π‘“π‘Ÿπ‘Žπ‘ π‘‘π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘π‘‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’ π‘ƒπ‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘—π‘’π‘π‘‘π‘  𝐴𝑐𝑑.

The Environmental Assessment Office is seeking input to review projects on a case-by-case basis to reduce the typical EA timeframe of 3-5 years to 20-months using a validation-based mode, which includes:

- A comprehensive and stable project description
- At least one full year of seasonal baseline data and technical modelling
- Documented engagement and collaboration with First Nations
- Rigorous technical assessment of potential project effects
- Legally enforceable mitigation measures
- Post-certificate compliance

Helping international equipment suppliers work through British Columbia’s waste discharge authorization process calls for flexibility and creative approaches. Building risk management into both procedural and technical aspects of permitting often involves Traditional Knowledge, technology, operational controls, and Trigger Response Plans.

It’s a collaborative journey where clear communication and openness to different perspectives are key to meeting shared socioeconomic goals while protecting people and wildlife.
