TRU students experienced Indigenous-led tourism in a way no classroom could replicate on a 12-day Adventure Studies field school on Haida Gwaii.
“Camping under the night sky with people who had been strangers only three months before, the trip gave me unforgettable firsts and lessons about connection, resilience, and openness,” said tourism management student Unaysah Ladhani.
Through tours, storytelling and unexpected invitations welcoming them in, students gained a deeper understanding of relationship, responsibility and respect.

Today, we honour National Indigenous Peoples Day and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, knowledge, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.
As a campus located on the traditional territories of the Secwépemc Nation, TRU Williams Lake is grateful for the opportunity to learn from, work alongside, and build relationships with Indigenous communities.
On Friday, our staff and students were proud to join community members in the Indigenous Day Parade, celebrating culture, connection, and community. We recognize that National Indigenous Peoples Day is not only a time for celebration, but also for reflection, learning, and continued commitment to reconciliation.
Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day. 🧡

National Indigenous History Month is a time for us to acknowledge and celebrate the rich histories, diverse cultures and impactful contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.
TRU is deeply committed to honouring and strengthening our connection with the Secwépemc and respecting “re tsq̓ey̓s-kucw m-q̓iyém̓ ne tmicw ne7élye ne Secwepemcúl̓ecw” — the laws that are written on the land in Secwépemc territory.
As we approach National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, we encourage you to participate in initiatives and events that are integral to building a respectful and informed community. Let’s expand our awareness, uplift Indigenous voices and commit to a journey of continuous learning that will last indefinitely.
