Hello & Happy New Year!
If you're here from the post on my personal page.... here's the story I mentioned in the Menace photo post.

I can't remember the exact year, but I do recall that we were booked at the George Dawson Inn in Dawson Creek for two weeks during Christmas and New Year's.

We had a few days off on December 24, 25, and 26, so Andy Buxton and I drove to Fort St. John to spend Christmas there. Andy had family in FSJ, and I was seeing a guy who lived there—a musician in the business.

After Christmas, we returned to the gig. Since the New Year's Eve event was in the hotel's ballroom, we had to take down our gear from the bar and set up for the NYE performance. I had bought a bottle of Jack Daniel's for the evening and had it my hand on stage like David Lee Roth. I jumped on the front wedges, but unfortunately, UNLIKE DLR, the wedges rolled off the stage. That was just a foreshadowing moment—lol.

The ballroom had one door that led into a hallway filled with hotel rooms. During a break, the band headed down this hallway to our rooms. We had just done the countdown to midnight and played a couple of songs and everyone was in full party mode. The hallway was crowded with patrons when some idiot grabbed my ass—an entire handful, right up my crotch. I swore at him and told him to "F off," but Brian, our bassist, wasn't having any of it. He turned around and decked the guy.

What followed was a full-blown brawl that cleared the ballroom. The cops arrived, people were arrested, and everyone was thrown out. The next day, the whole town was talking about the brawl at the George Dawson.

I'm sure some folks from Dawson Creek remember this lol

CHAPTER 3 or "Laura Lee Roth"

When I first saw David Lee Roth, I wasn't sure if I wanted to BE him or DO him. Turns out, it was lots of both.
To be clear, we're not talking Dave as he is now, but when Van Halen was on the top.
Dave's vaudeville schtick sits right in my comfort zone and later I discovered Louis Prima & Keely Smith.
There were a few times on stage when I pulled a 'Dave - excess is best' move and rocked out with my mic in one hand and a bottle of Jack in the other.
Fav tunes are 'So This Is Love', 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love', 'Dance The Night Away', 'Unchained', 'Panama' and of course, some of Dave's solo stuff.
If you're following along, are you sensing a theme here?

So, it was my birthday yesterday...
I started in the business at 18 and at that time, I wasn't 'allowed' to be in the bar unless I was performing.
Mario and I both had to hang out in the kitchen, dressing room or hotel room during the breaks.
I finally turned 19 in GOLDEN, BC!
The bar we were playing in was typical for that time but the servers were fantastic.
They showed up on my birthday with balloons and other fun stuff and I celebrated my 19th on stage with the staff, the audience and my band.
It was a blast and I was FINALLY able to hang out in the bar on the breaks.
I'm not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing?

I've got some great stories about OTHER birthdays, but we'll save those for another time.
Happy Birthday to ME!

Mondays on the road...
Set up and sound check day.
Some clubs ran regular drink specials on Mondays.
The Metro used to run "Big Apple Mondays" where they had apple cider and apple schnapps on special.
Wildchild played at the Metro many times, but ONE particular Monday, there were a lot of people bringing shots up to the stage for me IN THE FIRST SET.
Being the cheeky chick singer that I was, I announced to the audience...
"You think you're going to get me drunk by sending all the shots up here? Well, you keep sendin' 'em and I'll keep drinkin' 'em"
Famous Chick Singer last words 😉
Johnny Tequila will probably remember more about this night that I do.

FAMILY
I grew up in a crazy circus family.
My maternal grandparents, Arthur & Mary Love, were working musicians.
Mary played the piano and Arthur played the drums.
They played in a dance band or, as Mary called it, The Orchestra.

Arthur passed away before I was born.
Grandma Love - Mary lived with us until I was around 6.
She made her living playing the piano for EVERYTHING - dances, dance classes, weddings, funerals - HELL, she even played the piano at Shakey's Pizza Parlour in Calgary in the early 1970s.

Growing up, I listened to every kind of music but I was obsessed with Hollywood Movie Musicals. Because my mother and her siblings all grew up as dancers/dance teachers, it was pretty much a given that I would start taking performing arts classes at a young age.
I started at around 4 years with GROUP BATON LESSONS.
Good lord... a bunch of little people with metal weapons? Who thought THAT was a good idea?
By the time I was 5, I was taking Tap & Ballet and was totally in my happy place....
I feel I owe my passion for music and performing to my amazing Grandma & Grandpa Love.

Wildchild songlist from January 1988.
Some of my favourite tunes were 'All We Are' - Kim Mitchell and 'How Can I Refuse You' -Heart.
Also, always loved singing 'Dance Desire'
