SUGAR CHALLENGE -what I learned....
1. Keep on reading the Labels - especially when it says "natural" or "healthy " ! I started to get a little lazy reading labels - but I am back at it. There is so much more sugar in so many things that I realized.
Especially the protein bars I occasionally buy for a quick snack.
2. I really don't need any added sugar in my diet to appease my sugar cravings. After not eating fruit for a month - a cherry tomato was like a burst of sugar! I ate them with such gusto.
3. Sugar REALLY does affect our belly fat. I lost about 3 LBS and I do feel it was all in my belly.
4. Its really not that hard - I thought that I would miss my daily sugar bite of dark chocolate or some other sweet - but it was more a HABIT than I thought.
5. It REALLY helps to have a friend or 5 doing it along with you - for accountability AND support.
6. I forgot how much I enjoy challenging myself - it was good to commit to a month long challenge.
7. I will stick to my 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I will remain conscious and choose wisely what I eat and the other 20 % (usually weekends for me) I will lighten up and enjoy a little treat.

So I'm wondering how everyone's sugar challenge is going? I had a very good first day - 21 grams of sugar. Today my running count is 11 grams. Its not really very hard if you stay away from ALL packaged foods and eat foods in their natural state. However, saying that - watch out for things like "natural" apple and orange juice. A 250 ml serving has the SAME amount of sugar as a can of coke. How about that? Water's lookin good!

Bummer! My favourite grab snack ( when I haven't planned well) has a whopping 14 grams of sugar. No wonder I love it so much! I'm going to go for the ones friend Jacqueline suggested.
SUGAR CHALLENGE
Basic Guidelines
1. To consume 25 grams or less of sugar each day
2. This includes ALL sugars - added in food AND natural (eg: apples)
3. Keeping a running total of your food log will be helpful, especially at the beginning when you are educating yourself as to how much sugar is in each food item. (myfitnesspal is the app I use)
4. This is NOT a no alcohol challenge so if this is one of your choices for the day be sure to add the amount of sugar in your beverage.
5. Challenge runs September 8 th- October 8th
6. If you need to lose Fat - you may wish to take measurements and have a Body Fat % test done, as well as knowing your starting weight. All measures are important.
7. You may also want to take a front, back and side picture of yourself before and after.
8. This is a personal commitment - you do not need to sign up or report to anyone but if you think your experience may benefit another person, feel free to share.
9. The same goes for if you are having difficulty with your food choices - others might have helpful suggestions.
Educate yourself- make wise choices- see how it makes you feel

YES, I will have my morning coffee. It shall be whitened with almond milk! Try not to think of this month as deprivation - rather; making conscious choices and diversifying in our food selections.
My breakfast tomorrow will be two soft boiled eggs on one piece of Country Harvest " veggie bread" - 1 gram of sugar in the whole breakfast!
Feel free to share your yummy breakfast and how many grams of sugar it has!
