🌿 It’s baby wildlife season 🌿

You may start to notice young animals on their own—but not all baby animals need rescuing. A baby animal’s best chance at survival is with its mother.

🐣 Baby animals are often not abandoned.
Many species, including birds, rabbits, and deer, leave their young alone for long periods while they forage. This is a natural survival strategy to avoid attracting predators. Even if you don’t see a parent, they are often nearby and will return.

👉 What to do:
- Observe from a distance — keep interactions minimal.
- Never attempt to feed a baby animal.
- Leave the animal where it is if it appears healthy, quiet, and uninjured.
- Keep pets and people away to prevent stress or harm.

🚨 You should only intervene if:
- The animal is injured, cold, weak, or has been caught by a pet.
- It is in immediate danger (e.g., roadside, construction area).
- You are certain the parent has not returned after monitoring from a distance (at least 24 hours).

Handling or removing a baby animal when it isn’t necessary can reduce its chances of survival. When in doubt, contact a wildlife rehabilitator (our local rescue is ) or a conservation officer (1-877-952-7277) for advice before taking action. Or call us with questions (250)-342-7007.
