Makes me smile every time I see the children playing and using these! I bet parents learn along side and that is icing on the cake.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada's decision in Daniels v. Canada. On April 14, 2016, Daniels v. Canada, [2016] 1 S.C.R. 99 was delivered, affirming Section 91(24) of the Constitution Act, 1867, 'is about the federal government's relationship with Canada's Aboriginal peoples" and "… Métis... are "Indians" under s. 91(24) and it is the federal government to whom they can turn."

This landmark decision confirmed that the federal government has jurisdiction in relation to Métis and affirmed that a fiduciary relationship and responsibilities exist between Métis and the Crown.

The case was initiated by Métis leader Harry Daniels, who advocated for recognition and accountability at the federal level. It took 17 years of hard work, advocacy, commitment, and a belief in our rights as a Nation to achieve this ruling. We honour the hard work of Harry Daniels and his family, and the many others who contributed to this landmark ruling.

The Métis National Council continues to advance federal accountability and a nation-to-nation, government-to-government relationship grounded in recognition of Métis rights.

They need to bring MNBC into the 21st Century! Our children…our way!

The Métis National Council is marking the 10-year anniversary of Daniels v. Canada, a landmark 2016 decision of the Supreme Court of Canada that affirmed Métis are included under Section 91(24) of the Constitution Act, confirming federal jurisdiction in relation to the Métis.

This milestone coincides with other significant anniversaries, including 30 years since the report issued by the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and more than a decade since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Together, these moments reflect longstanding commitments to reset the relationship between Canada and the Métis Nation. Commitments that remain only partially fulfilled.
