What a great day at the Solar and Cover Crop Grazing Field Day in Arnprior and Kinburn!

I was very grateful for the opportunity to join such a knowledgeable and experienced group and learn more about how solar energy and agriculture can work together.

Seeing sheep grazing between the solar panels was a great example of a real win-win: the land continues to support agriculture, while grazing also provides a practical way to manage vegetation around the solar infrastructure.

One comment from today’s discussion especially stayed with me: let the professionals do what they do best.

Farmers understand livestock and the land. Solar professionals understand energy systems. Agronomists bring another layer of knowledge. When that expertise comes together, everyone benefits from a much stronger pool of knowledge and experience.

In the afternoon, we moved to a soybean field in Kinburn to look at cover-crop grazing. We saw a beautiful soybean crop, walked through the field operations, and had some very interesting conversations — including where drones might have a practical role in the future.

A lot to learn, and even more to think about.

Tom, over the years we have known you as a man of faith, responsibility and grace — someone who kept his word, treated people fairly, and was never afraid to look ahead.

Years ago, when drone technology was still new to many in agriculture, you took the time to listen, understand, and give us a chance. Today, many of the things you believed could become part of agriculture have become a reality.

Looking back, your early trust and foresight mean even more to us.

As you follow God’s calling into this next chapter, we are sad to see you leave CFFO, but grateful for all you have done and excited for the road ahead of you.

May God guide you, protect you, and bless the work that lies ahead.
